I left dress code unset for a grand ball expecting the guests to default to formal outfits the way my sim did, but instead they had classic sim townie mis-matched casual. Even the pre-made townies were wearing crazy outfits rather than anything set for them - even their everyday outfits would have been more appropriate!
Same! I wanted to throw the very first Grand Ball for my newly minted Sultan and the random outfits were so awful, I canceled the ball.
