Oh that's... weird. Have you tried replacing the door with a new one? Have you tried replacing it with a different one? Removing the ceiling light? While none of these would really make sense as a "fix" I'm definitely curious about this one!
I did try replacing the door with an open arch, and also removing the ceiling light. I even tried removing the art that was on the opposite side of the wall, none of which worked.
I ended up having to remove the walls entirely and rebuild them, and leaving some extra breathing room by adding a diagonal wall and including an extra square of room.
It was really weird, since they were all able to walk upstairs without issue, and the pets could also use the door. They just got stuck when going downstairs.
