I just had this issue with my evil sim, he would talk badly about his high school girlfriend as a young adult, and get the sad 3 days moodlet saying it's from the loyal trait. To be fair he acquired the non-committal bonus trait and after a while the game asked if I wanted to switch to loyal, but I didn't accept.
