When my Sims use the interaction “Take Serving” or “Grab a Serving”, they go to the food, pick up a portion, but instead of eating it they immediately put the plate into their inventory. This happens every time regardless of the Sim, the lot, or the type of food.

“Pick up serving” should work exactly like that. I use it to split a meal into servings for sale in a display case or to carry servings to give to toddlers or Paranormal’s spirits.
“Grab a serving” they should start to eat it when they pick it up.
I don’t think there is a “Take serving”
Are you definitely using “Grab a serving”? Do you play with any mods/cc?
