Sims won’t clean up dishes and will only do one item if told to do so

do they actually clean the one dish or just pick it up and put it back down ?

Did you test without any mods/cc ?

Same for me, no one autonomously will do any dishes anymore. Telling them to clean a dish they will only collect the single dish to wash, even if theres a bunch on the same table. They will wash it.  No cc/mods

I have been noticing this as well! The save I've been playing lately has a few light mods and minimal CC, and it happens consistently-- they will pick up a single dish that I have directed them to clean and wash it, but not pick up any others.  However, I have tested this with a completely clean save (as in, had it regenerate and entirely new The Sims 4 folder) and played a new sim, and everything work as intended.  I've seen it happen with both simply empty plates/glasses and with plates/glasses that have also expired.  I'm still looking into what the common thread is.  I have so few mods and cc so that I'll be able to test it fairly quickly to see if that's actually the cause or if the issue goes deeper.

I am having a different issue with dishes - one of my sims (third sim) cannot wash them, in the dishwasher, any of the sinks etc. . She will gather up the dishes and then go put them down. If i drag the dishes to the dishwasher, it starts. If my second sim (married into house) does dishes though, she just uses the dishwasher normally. There's no obstructions or anything. The new (third) sim has the neat trait. I believe that my first sim and my maid are also having this issue but i need to test further. Edit: I do not currently use any mods or cc

For me, they will gather the dishes and then put them on the surface, if I click clean again, they will clean it. This happens every time.

Mine is this same exact issue. Will do the one dish, but not the others. Will not do it autonomously. No mods. On PC. 

They do gather them, then at some point just stand idle for a while and put them down in a heap. It's really annoying because I have a B&B and want to clean up the dishes everywhere but I have to make them do it like 3x before all of them are gathered. She is the only sim in the household, so I'm not even switching sims what could alter her autonomy.
