I am having this issue for months now. Family legacy is the only base game aspiration I can’t complete.

[SOLUTION]
After racking my brain for days, maybe even weeks I have a "terrible solution" for this bug.(QUICK OVERVIEW)
The "solution" is to "cheat" the aspiration (only possible way, while it is bugged) then to save your sim to the gallery, then re-upload the sim into your save file via the gallery.
This will grant the step as complete, (and award the trait as needed for this specific aspiration) and will also include the check-mark and yellow boarder and show as properly completed.(Note: If this "method/solution" is being used for different steps in an aspiration, the trait will not be rewarded if the cheated step isn't among the final steps of an aspiration. If you want the trait, and the step you are using to cheat through isn't the final, you will need to re-enter the command "aspirations.complete_current_milestone" until the aspiration is fully complete, prior to saving it to the gallery.)
(WARNING)
(Please read the above before starting these steps to ensure you understand the situation before executing the steps.)
(WARNING)
1.) Press Ctrl+Shift+C
(This will enable cheats.)
2.) Type: aspirations.complete_current_milestone
(This will complete the step.)
(NOTE: It may be possible to skip the following steps, and just save your game, delete the "onlinethumbnailcache" folder and "localthumbcache.package" in the Sims 4 Folder, > Repairing your game, then simply reloading your file.)
3.) Click a mirror > "Change Sim"
(This will enter CAS/Create a Sim)
4.) Save Sim to your gallery.
5.) Delete the existing sim (WARNING)
(This will cause you to lose all relationships, your inventory, and everything else that isn't saved to the gallery.)
6.) Create the Sim via the gallery saved previously.
(Add back their inventory/relationships or rebuild everything as needed.)
7.) Result: Sim will have completed the step, and the UI/Menu will show it as completed as well.
(Additional Note: If you wish not to have "cheats enabled" in your current save, you can save the sim to your gallery, perform the steps in a different save, and then re-add them back after from the other save into your "main" save as needed.)
This is a terrible "Solution" but it is the only way to work around this bug while we wait for the Sims team to ever get around to it.Here is an image showing the aspiration complete, as well as marked properly in the Menu/UI after having used cheats, and using the method as mentioned above.

After the November 4th 2025 update, this bug still persists.
It is unfortunate of the Sims 4 team to fix minor issues such as inherited features, but ignore game breaking bugs such as this one.
My game save is still unplayable. - asiaillustrates2 months agoRising Traveler
this is broken. been broken for longer than 4 months. A reddit post about this same thing is dated back 11 years. I've gone through two different aspirations and with my sim's twins, yet her nor her husband have been able to knock "have a child complete an aspiration' off their aspiration list.

I also have this same issues. Done all 4 of the child aspirations.

I am also having this problem i had my child completed the rambunctious scamp aspiration. But my parent sims box did not check

Photos of the issue.
This can be done for any child, at any level and any aspiration.
The feature is simply broken.
This can also be done on any system (PC or Xbox/Playstation) without mods and without Custom Content, because again, the system is just broken.
Edit:
Even using cheats, the system is still broken..
The aspiration "completes" but it won't even show as complete. - Millslyte2 months agoSeasoned Rookie
I am also having this issue.
I see the post was changed to "Under Investigation" 4 months ago, and yet this broken feature has not been addressed.
I feel a feature of the game that is completely broken should be a high priority.
As someone who plays with "Super Sims" I am completely unable to continue gameplay until this feature of the game is fixed, as my Sim cannot obtain the aspiration trait, and that is what makes super sims, a super sim, is collecting aspiration traits.
I would not like to resort to cheating to have access to a feature that should work.
Thank you. - sevenjetc3 months agoSeasoned Novice
I'm having the same issue, tried with two different save files, with CC on and CC off, it doesn't fulfill, glad to see I'm not alone.

Just wanted to let you know I've tested all three aspiration types (child, teen, and adult) at all three life stages (child, teen, and adult) and none worked. I've also tested both part-time jobs and full 10-level careers, and neither worked. Several other people in this thread have mentioned testing child and adult aspirations and neither worked, so it's definitely still a bug and not user error.
