No mods/cc, I play on console (Xbox). Just trying to use the action of “read to child” is impossible to get to work. I’ve tried using the action from a bookcase and dragging the actual book nearby and using it from there. Either the action will forever pend or they’ll walk in circles/drop the book somewhere.

did you test this on multiple household and does it happen on all of them or just your current one ?

I've had this problem for a few months too on ps4. The game doesn't give the kid enough time to get to the parent. I put a bookcase right next to the kids bed, so I'll select read to child, parent takes a seat on the bed the kid starts to toddle over to join her on the bed but parent gets up and puts the book away as the kid is pulling itself up on the bed then the kid sits there for a bit with 'be read to' in its queue as the parent leaves the room and wanders off or as OP states parent will take book out walk in a circle for a bit and put the book away and if I change to the kid the 'be read to' is in their queue until they take a seat then vanishes, this problem also occurs when you choose 'read to sleep' but in this instance it queues indefinitely until you manually cancel it. I have had two saves with kids and this happened in both. It makes the family aspiration goal "read to a child for two hours" impossible to complete.

I couldn't get it to work with any age stage of my sims kids - infant to child age, even tried it when the kid was teen as they were selectable when I clicked on the bookshelf but it never carried through. My sim has five children in one save and I tried it on them all when they were infant, toddler, child and teen. My other save had one child age sim in it and it wouldn't work with them either.
