Honestly: until this is fixed (yeah yeah, we all know it will never be as EA doesn't give a **bleep** about its players/customers) the only workaround is to get a vampire character, as it is very low maintenance (doesn't need sleep, which helps fenominally in achieving a written song/book in one sitting :D) and getting everyone experiencing this bug to upvote this topic.
There’s also a mod for this. You just gotta cancel the action before leaving the lot for it to save!
