The EA app for Mac has arrived!

~~EA’s new optimized Mac platform is coming soon!The EA app for Mac will soon replace Origin as our primary Mac platform.~~

Late last year, we officially launched EA’s next-generation game platform, the EA app, for Windows OS. A faster, more reliable, and more streamlined experience – it’s the best place for you to experience EA’s incredible games, services and content.

We’ve been working to bring the same updated experience to our Mac players. Today, we’re excited to say that the EA app for Mac will soon replace Origin as our primary Mac platform. The EA app is our fastest and lightest Mac client to date. With the new streamlined design you will easily find the games and content you’re looking for and discover your new favorite games. With simple content downloads and background updates you can ensure that your games are ready to play when you are.

We will be inviting Origin players on supported macOS devices to make the move soon. To make the transition to the EA app as simple as possible, all your games and content, including games previously installed, will be ready and waiting for you on the EA app by the time you receive your invitation. Your local and cloud saves will transfer forward ensuring you can pick up where you left off. New players can start by downloading a new favorite game and jump into the action with our optimized experience.

What is the EA app?

The EA app for Mac is Electronic Arts’ all-new, enhanced Mac platform where you can easily play any of your supported Origin games and discover new favourites.

Why is the EA app replacing Origin?

Origin is a platform that's been around for over ten years. Given its age, it unfortunately has performance and reliability limitations, and we've heard our players' feedback about those issues.

The EA app is meant to be an answer to that feedback: it's built from the ground up to be a faster, lighter and more modern app built with the future in mind.

Your EA account

Does my account transfer to the EA app?

Yep, you can log in to the EA app with the same credentials you use for Origin. Learn more about how to use the EA app here.

Will my saved data and in-game hours transfer over?

Yes. Any game that lists in-game hours on Origin will list those hours on the EA app. Saved data currently on your Mac or saved via Origin's cloud will also transfer.

Your EA games

What will happen to my Origin games?

Since all purchases are linked to your account, you can download any games you bought on Origin through the EA app. Check out these instructions on how to download your games in the EA app.

What if I notice one (or more) of my games is missing? What do I do?

We've worked hard to ensure all games and content previously available on Origin are ready for you on the EA app. If something is missing, check out these steps to find games that are missing from your Library.

Will I have to re-download my games?

No, re-downloading isn’t necessary. Any games you already installed on Origin will appear in your Library on the EA app, ready to play.

If there are some games in your Library that were installed but didn’t download, follow these steps to download them in the EA app.

Troubleshooting

The EA app won't launch no matter what.

You might need to update the operating system on your Mac before installing the EA app. Learn how to check if your Mac is compatible with the minimum required macOS needed for the EA app here.

You may have hit an error during download or installation. If so, you'll need to start over. Find out how to restart or reset your EA app download here.

Try clearing your cache through App Recovery.

Restart the EA app to see if that fixes your issue. If that doesn’t work, try restarting your computer.

Can't launch "x" game from the EA app.

Please attempt a full restart of the application.

If a restart of the app doesn't work, try App Recovery.

Why are games missing from my Library?

Please run an App Recovery. If something is missing, check out these steps to find games that are missing from your Library.

EA app and Functionality/Features

What will happen to my friends list?

Your Origin friends list automatically transfers over once you log in to the EA app, so you don’t have to worry about remembering all those player IDs.

Origin used to have "x" feature (wishlist, gifting, etc.) when will "x" be available in the EA app?

We aim to consistently update the EA app to serve all players better over time. If we see significant demand for "x" feature, we'll be sure to use that feedback to craft the future of the app.

Where can I access advanced launch options?

The game tile in your Library has a button to access game properties, which contains the advanced launch options.
