Re: How do I set maximum download speed in origin?

It's a pity, it has soon taken over 4 years to add this brilliant idea. Which many have pointed out in this thread, already exists in most(if not all) programs like Origin.

There are many reasons why people want to have this option. I for my self am sharing my internet connection to my rentals. And I do not like at all that Origin sucks all the bandwidth it can possible take, without any concern for other people. So you make me look bad to these people, not cool!

A third party solution is only a temporary quick fix, while you work to fix this. You said your self that this is a good idea, and something that should be implemented, so why the long haul?

in another note, I have to point out that the layout in the Origin program, it's just tedious, i cant find anything logically in here. I wish it was never invented and that you made a deal with steam instead. Would probably not be more expensive than making your own program. which is lacking basic functionality.

Sorry for the grumpy post, but 4 years without listening to your customers, that's a long time!

Hopefully we will see this feature in 2017 some time.

Best regards,

TJ

  • Seriously, 21 page of replies must at least point that the idea is somewhat valuable for customers, may you at least reply what is the progress? Or may be reasonably decline?

  • Does origin really not have a rate limiter yet?? Why is origin so bad!? A market cap of $26 BILLION and it cant figure that out??? Look at Steam, be more like Steam please.

    @twincalibur

    Hi,

    There is currently no option to change your network settings in Origin. Origin should automatically pick up the correct speed for your connection, assuming it has bandwidth available, and there's nothing blocking the client.

    Is that what you were referring to?

    Can we get this issue un-tagged as solved?  I thought I was safe to buy games on Origin until I came into the thread and read the "solution."

    @logicflaw

    @Straatford87 marked his post for visibility only. I think that it is important that other users can see the feedback from an EA Community Manager when they enter the thread.

    @holger1405 I've been subscribed to this topic for 9 months waiting for it to be solved.  When I get an email notification that a solution has been posted, I have an expectation that a solution has been posted and the Origin update that wants to install includes that solution.  Maybe someday, pinned replies and a bandwidth limiter will at least make it on a roadmap whiteboard near the relevant team's idea forest.

    4 years in and still not an option? This is absolutely pathetic. Even the steaming pile of garbage that is uPlay has this incredibly basic and necessary feature. WTF.

    This is unacceptable as a response. EA doesn't care enough to making a decent version of origin. I cannot even download a game and watch youtube at the same time. Not having the ability to set a maximum download speed in 2017 is a complete oversight. Especially considering Steam (aka the only reason this stupid program exists) has had this feature for years. EA is a joke of a company and I'm only have an account because of Mass Effect (well that and the joke of a Simcity game you guys released a few years back). This is why I own almost all my games on Steam and sigh every time I have to launch origin (in fact I had to completely uninstall origin at one point to play mass effect 2 which makes no sense).
