What happens when the bug occurs? The mouse cursor escapes the screen. This can cause clicking outside of the screen, which then loses control over the game. When this occurs mid fight, this is immediately a lost fight. Additionally, every time the cursor escapes the camera turn rate becomes inconsistent, making it difficult to track fast-moving targets.
What should be happening instead? The cursor should not be escaping the screen.
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? See below for better formatted steps. Setup: * Multi-monitor display (3x, arranged horizontally) * Apex in DX12 mode. Issue does not occur in DX11 mode. * Mouse polling rate at least 500 Hz. Easier to repro at 1000 Hz. Issue is difficult to repro at standard 125 Hz. * Borderless windowed mode, but also repro-able in fullscreen mode (is there a difference in DX12?). 1. Enter into any match, including training room 2. Swipe mouse quickly side to side. Observe the cursor briefly flickers outside of the Apex game before being teleported back into the middle. When this happens the turning rate in-game becomes inconsistent and slower than expected. 3. If clicking a lot (e.g. shooting) while swiping the mouse, it is possible to also click outside of the screen, which loses focus of the game window completely.

This only happens in DX12 mode and with a mouse poll rate of at least 500 Hz. It is worse at 1000 Hz poll rate.

This only started occurring after the mid-2023 patch (https://www.ea.com/en-au/games/apex-legends/news/dressed-to-kill-collection-event) that added the "clamp mouse cursor" setting. Before this setting was added, the game worked fine in DX12 mode with a 1000 Hz mouse poll rate. Toggling the clamp option does not affect the bug, it only seems to add additional clamping when inside menus (non-camera control).

The experience feels like the new method of mouse clamping only occurs at a fixed/low frequency, and when the mouse poll rate exceeds this frequency it allows the cursor to escape.

Setup:

* Multi-monitor display (3x, arranged horizontally)
* Apex in DX12 mode. Issue does not occur in DX11 mode.
* Mouse polling rate at least 500 Hz. Easier to repro at 1000 Hz. Issue is not possible to repro at standard 125 Hz.

* Borderless windowed mode, but also repro-able in fullscreen mode (is there a difference in DX12?).

Steps:

1. Enter into any match, including training room
2. Swipe mouse quickly side to side. Observe the cursor briefly flickers outside of the Apex game before being teleported back into the middle. When this happens the turning rate in-game becomes inconsistent and slower than expected.
3. If clicking a lot (e.g. shooting) while swiping the mouse, it is possible to also click outside of the screen, which loses focus in the game window completely.

I can consistently repro this in training room, and it occurs in just about every fight in-game. With my previous Logitech mouse it was okay down at 250 Hz, but my new Razer mouse only has options for 125, 500 and 1000 Hz, and the control issues are significant at 500+.

  • Correction, at 500 Hz poll rate the issue is somewhat inconsistent to repro. Somehow, it seems more frequent when knocked down, though that might just be because I try to turn more rapidly.

    Still repros very consistently at 1000 Hz poll.

    Additional info: monitors are 144 Hz centre w/ G-Sync (compatible) (Apex), 60 Hz side (desktop). All are UHD (3840 x 2160) at 150% Windows scaling.

    Additional in-game settings (changing these did not appear to help, but I have not tried all combinations)

    * V-Sync: Adaptive

    * NVidia Reflex: Enabled + Boost

    * Adaptive resolution target: 100(? - 144 entered but it caps at 100)

    * Adaptive Supersampling: Disabled
