Hi everyone,
To increase account security, we've recently applied a change where players can only change the Origin ID once per 72 hours.
If you're getting an error message while changing your ID, please wait until 72 hours have passed and try again. In the meantime, we're aware that the error message that you're receiving upon trying to change your ID is confusing. We're in the process of updating this, which should be available at a later time in May.
Should you have any further issues in the meantime, then please leave a reply in this thread.
Thank you,
Thank you for the answer to this issue but for all our friends that didn't see this, is a better way planned soon such as this info instead of the prohibited name error currently?

Yes, it would make sense for us to update the error messaging to clarify what the actual issue is. I've requested this to be updated.
Thanks for the suggestion 🙂
This should appear when you want to change the name, now I'm stuck with random letters for three days because I thought all the names were taken -.-
- Anonymous9 years agoThanks for the answer, is it possible to add this information on the general information tab under ID, like "can only be changed every 3 days"?

hi i cant change my name ive waited 3 days and nothing works. IT says its prohibited

It might be that you haven't waited the full 72 hours yet. You could also try choosing another name to see what happens.
In any case, please keep me updated! :-)

this would've been great to know before I put in a string of random numbers to see if the name change was actually working. Thanks for leading the way in brilliant innovative decisions and customer support once again, EA.
FML, I guess I'll go back to Overwatch instead of buying Battlefield. - Straatford879 years ago

You are absolutely right! We've picked up on it and are waiting to deploy the update (sadly we can't hotfix this, and have to wait for an actual patch).
Lastly, if you're a Battlefield fan then we certainly don't want to keep you from it by making things more difficult for you. If you like, feel free to tell us where we failed you with Origin so that we can make it better:

I tried to change my name to "klanderson55" and it contained a prohibited word. I suspect it is "klan". Hopefully, since it is apparently offensive, I won't have to change my name in real life. That would be a real hassle, but anything not to offend someone. Anyway, as you can see, my current name is probably more offensive than that. I apologize in advance for anyone who is offended and look to change it as soon as possible, but that will take 3 days. I also hope that bringing myself into the light doesn't get me banned, as this name was allowed by the system, while a name containing my initials was not. I'm sure that this post was a waste of time for me to write, and probably a waste of time to anyone who reads it, but why not try to see if I can get anything done as unlikely as it is, and if not it may at least be worth something for the future, but again unlikely.

Your comment is noted!
Could you in the meantime keep me updated when you've got your name changed?

then why would't you change the "prohibited" message? it's been over a month since this question had been given, but we can see this kind of messages yet. I think the EA's employees are so damn lazy.
This is really ridiculous, last night I was trying to figure out why any word would come up as taken or the ID has prohibited characters, I tried to change my name back to what it was originally but it does not let me, please fix this issue I don't see why you need to have this kind of system to protect prohibited IDs. This post has been opened since 2015, it is really annoying this problem still exists.
I'm trying to change my name to what I had it to before LuduisDeLudos. Its saying the something as everyone else. Prohibited. Then why the hell was I able to have it named that before then?
So, When is that gonna be fixed? * confused the * out of me and I even called EA support. Either be truthful with your words, or don't say anything. Then again I am saying this to an EA employee, you guys don't give a * about any of your customers.
Hi Tom,
I tried to change my ID and these error messages showed up. So i ended up here. I am just curious why i cant change it back in less than 72 hours, or whatever time it will be after update in may. Could you please tell us, what changed in that update?
Thank you
Srsly EA ive been sitting here for the past 3 hours trying to names that is PROHIBITED!!!!
from japanese words to greek gods . . . every single name i put is prohibited
I tried to put my desired name which is "SF_FutureFriends" thinking that nobody has got this name but it came out prohibited
And my IGN right now is "Put_tang_in_a_Mo" which means "your mom is a *" is allowed . . . why
Question: are names like "Bot_Jared" "Bot_Emily" allowed in the community (even though i know its prohibited, but is it still allowed?) if so i want to have an ID like this in the future

This change was made for security reasons. But yes, you and other players have since made us aware that there are some adverse effects from the 72 hour restriction as well.
For my own information, could you please upload a screenshot of what you're seeing when trying to change your ID? Could you also check if the error message is clickable?
Thank you for your answer but i was able to change my name the next day. I was seeing error that the ID i wanted was already in use or it contains a prohibited word or character. This screenshot is just so you can see what it shows. (I used space and i know i cant have it in ID but it was fastes way to show). The error message is not clickable.
Are you kidding me? I didn't mean to set my name to this so now I have to wait 72 hours? "...to increase account security" Yea right... Once again EA, defending your title as the worst game company.

I agree EA doesn't care at all about the gameplay experience for customers they can't even let you change your name on your profile how ridiculous is that ?
- Anonymous8 years ago
im stuck with this * stupid name, just because the name that i tried was TitaaniHörhö. i want it to be that! i got angry and i changed my name to this because it didnt accept anything i wrote! so can you PLEASE change my name back to what it was? i would much appriciate it. because i cant go out there playing with a name like: adajdadaijdajodl. i want my old name back. if you dont revert it back to RandomGamingYTxd, then i will stop using origin.

I'm still having issues everything related to my nickname, Hank, is prohibited. For example, I really like the tag HankQuest but it says there's a prohibited word or character? Even something like Hank2811 is banned and all the rest are taken!!! How can I login without a username? HELP PLEASE!!!
its weird the same issue is still acitve 🙂
when i want to change my name i did not express but got the wrong spelling and now i cant change it because of the issue.
So the problem is not fixed. thats pretty sad of the system that can't programmed well.
nice regrets.
