Found a fix that worked for me!
Performed a clean boot. EA actually has a guide for it:

I re-enabled all programs within Startup. For me, after doing a clean boot, it worked with all startups re-enabled. I could not find the specific program which was the issue, despite re-enabling in batches to see if I could narrow the problem down. Being unable to replicate the issue after that, I guess it shall remain a mystery for now.
