Black screen on Linux/Steam Deck

Linux/Steam Deck show a black screen at launch, not displaying any loading animation or logo videos. Tested with DX11 and DX12 on Proton Experimental, 9 (Beta) and 8.

So poor instructions, I didn't get the idea

I've already installed GE-Proton8-25, everything was fine before the last 2-3 days

Just tried it with Proton 9, nothing helps, still black screen

How were you able to figure out that? Give us the instructions!

OMG I was so stupid enough to bark this out

    Everything worked now, thanks brouzi

  • Of course, my bad. I browsed the community discussions on steam. The solution I used was

    1. Go to your steam library (out of big picture mode) and make sure above the search bar where it says games also click on software so you can view proton experiemental.

    2. Find proton experimental, right click on it, then click properties.

    3. go to betas, change it from none to bleeding-edge latest and untested dxvk

    4. Wait for the update for it to change, then go to apex, right click, and select properties.

    5. Go to compatibility, and select Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool, then for the compatibility tool select proton experimental.

If it needs to update wait for it to update then play. That has worked for me. I have also heard that apparently proton hotfix has it fixed as well. Hope this helps!

Thanks bro, that's easy and that's actually helped! I've already figured out by myself, but appreciate your willing to help! Previous instructions actually enough

Btw I ran proton experimental just via the Gaming Mode, not the Desktop. Everything works fine now! Fixed

  • Yeah i have had the same issue to on arch linux. I have seen people mention this issue on the protonDB forums and it turns out that this isn't a gpu issue. I believe they must have screwed with EAC once again and that has broken the linux support for this game.
