Same thing happening with me and my teammate on Steam. Almost the same PC specs as @Mogwaire

I could connect now after I started Apex on Steam, then exited it an started Apex again on Origin.

      I actually just copied all the contents of the "Apex" folder in the "Origin games" folder to a new folder called "Apex Legends" created under "Steam\steamapps\common\" and let Steam fix the files, no need to download all the stuff twice.
