i have ds4windows ready to install on a unzipped folder in my documents but so far i haven't installed it yet nor have i used it, for this computer. i don't have any other sw for the ps4 controller.
if i restart windows explorer then switch usb ports, windows finds my ps4 controller and it works. but if i lose control in game and switch usb ports without first restarting windows explorer my game and pc hard crash.

Gotcha, thanks! What happens if you start up your PC in a Clean Boot before you launch Apex Legends? If there's anything else running that could be causing issues with the USB port not recognizing the controller that may help to get around it.

there is nothing wrong starting the game and playing with the ps4 controller.
with the rumble it gets stuck and then the controller dies. its the anti ghosting technology.
right now i stopped using my ps4 controller and started using my ps5 controller on steam apex legends and so far no problems. my hands don't cramp up on the ps5 controller, i have large hands.

- @EA_Kent yesterday it happened on my ps5 controller. on pc. but the controller didn't freeze the sticks or buttons just the rumble was stuck on. i immediately knew the controller was in the process of dying like in the bug report.
another time yesterday too, my controller sticks froze, momentarily. but they started to work again.
both times on pc. same os as in the report.
i think its not freezing because i use my long single usbc cord, and if i used my usb extension cable it would freeze again, so i will try that and see if it freezes again.
