Hi @bernmacool. 

I've seen issues like this happen in the past, and in a lot of cases it's due to a conflict with IP addresses on the network. Since both devices are connected to the same network your router/modem might be assigning the same IP to both, which could be causing one of them to get kicked from the network when the other connects. 

When you've got a chance I'd recommend setting up a static IP address for both of the Xbox consoles to see if that helps. For more details on how to set a static IP on your console check out the Xbox support website.
