Also been experiencing this, not only with thanking people but with anything that uses the same key as destroying it. I personally can't think of any reason why I'd want to destroy it because It doesn't stop enemies taking the rifts made by me or my teammates even when it is destroyed.
Exactly, I’m not sure how necessary destroying it is, but it certainly doesn’t need to be on a hair trigger. Perhaps the prompt could be moved to only be visible when looking directly at it?
Personally, I think even that would occasionally get triggered when I'm not trying to trigger it, there's a lot that goes on in this game and when you're half a POI away the icon is pretty big and covers a solid region that could encompass a whole building between you and an enemy.
