Why does Valkyrie's ultimate always pull out the melee weapon?

Why does Valkyrie's ultimate always pull out her melee weapon? To my knowledge none of the other legends pull out their melee weapons after their ultimate is used so why does hers? This make soloing with her very hard to do when trying to be aggressive with her ultimate. Does anyone know?
