All Apex Legends settings reset after the latest update

After the latest Apex Legends update, all of my game settings were reset to their defaults.

This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Mouse sensitivity and ADS sensitivity
  • Key bindings
  • Video/graphics settings
  • Audio settings
  • Gameplay settings
  • Other customized in-game settings

This issue did not occur in previous versions of Apex Legends. My settings had been working normally before the latest update.

What changed

  • Before the latest update: all of my customized settings were saved and loaded normally.
  • After updating Apex Legends: my settings were reset.
  • The issue affects the entire settings configuration, not just mouse settings.
  • My Windows user profile name contains Chinese characters, for example:

C:\Users\[Chinese username]\

I suspect the latest version may have introduced an issue with reading or writing Apex configuration files when the Windows user profile path contains Chinese characters.

Configuration

  • OS: Windows 11
  • Game: Apex Legends (PC / Steam)
  • Mouse polling rate: 1000 Hz
  • Windows user profile path contains Chinese characters.

The Apex configuration files are located under:

%USERPROFILE%\Saved Games\Respawn\Apex\local\

In particular, settings.cfg appears to contain many of the affected settings.

Possible cause

I cannot confirm this yet, but I suspect that the latest update may have introduced a compatibility issue with non-English/Chinese characters in the Windows user profile path.

The important point is that the same Windows account and configuration worked normally with previous versions of Apex Legends, and the problem only appeared after the latest update.

I have also seen reports from other players suggesting that this issue may be related to Windows usernames or profile paths containing Chinese characters, so I would like to know whether this is a known issue.

If necessary, I can test the same Apex installation using a newly created Windows account with an English-only username to determine whether the issue can be reproduced.

Could the development team please investigate whether the latest update changed how Apex reads or writes its configuration files, and whether non-ASCII characters in the Windows user profile path can cause all game settings to be reset?

Thank you.
