Playstation 5 Pro Feedback

Abstract: The Playstation 5 Pro has plenty of system overhead for a slightly higher graphical fidelity (especially shadows) for the Balanced graphical mode. As of now, shadow-popin is prominent, and this is unnecessary given that the Balanced mode runs a stable 60fps across all game modes and maps in the BETA.

First of all, What an AMAZING game! Wonderful word DICE.

Hereby I would like to provide minor feedback for the Playstation 5 Pro.

This console offers a Balanced and Performance mode. For the Balanced mode the resolution is relatively high, I measured around ~1600P with an absolutely stable 60FPS. However, there appears to be a good amount of overhead available in terms of System resources. In particular, the PC equivalent “Local Light & Shadow Quality” and “Sun Shadow Quality” are set relatively low, where significant shadow pop-in can be observed. While this si not game-breaking it’s very inconsistent and makes the game look not good when running toward shadows that suddenly change shape to a higher quality.

I would suggest to add a “Fidelity Mode” (next to “Balanced” and “Performance”), that actually targets an PC “ULTRA settings” for some of the details, especially shadows. Given that not a single frame-drop has been observed on the PS5 Pro, I think this system can benefit a higher graphical output for the which to have this option.

I hope it helps, and I hope this rather simply option will be added by launch.

Thank you DICE!

Have you also measured resolution of base ps5 or series X? I am really curious and I find the textures on all consoles low res most of the time. Even BF 2042 had better resolution which I don't understand...

I do not have a Series X, but on the PS5 Pro I measured a resolution of ~1560P on the Luberation Peak map. The resolution is actually very hard to measure, because they use some fancy anti-aliasing to upscale to 2160P. (So it looks very 4K ish actually). It’s also a dynamic resolution, because it can slightly drop in large combat areas. You can notice that by looking at thin object (electricity cables for example). On the base PS5, the resolution is around ~1120P (same map).

In terms of graphics, the consoles are equivalent to PC highest settings, excepts for the “Local Light & Shadow Quality” and “Sun Shadow Quality”, which are set on High in the PS5 Pro, instead of Ultra. Interestingly, on PC these two shadow setting only demand 2 fps, but make huge difference in shadow quality. DICE can easily use ULTRA on the PS5 Pro. One small difference between the PS5 Pro and base PS5 is the texture draw distance, which is much higher on the PS5 Pro. But overall, the game suffers from lower texture quality on some objects across PC, PS5 and PS5 Pro. Only objects that use photogrammetry have very high texture quality.
