bring back platoons, the old school battlefield community misses it

That might require them to bring back battlelog too, which creates complications with consoles having to have interfacing for all of it too, and each platform has it's own way of doing things as well. Maybe they ditched it because it didn't really have the engagement they wanted it to have back then
