Week 1 Feedback - Finished Challenges
Been a battlefield fan since 1942 on PC, and skipped both BFV and 2042 due to it not appearing fun to play - just to provide some background for my perspective.
Overall the game feels good and all the adjustments I want are to my knowledge feasible to implement. I played to level 20.
BUGS I SAW IN BETA - Scopes rainbow white-out, sort of become a mess of texture, fixed by respawn. Gadgets like the motion sensor sometimes fall out of your hands and insta-place, other times need to be prompted. When using it, there's often a moment of wonder whether I need to provide additional input for it to place. Weapon attachments jump around and don't like to be changed in an active lobby. The defib tool seemed to have almost an AOE level of aim and only sometimes, promoting running around like a chicken to revive your team instead of carefully grabbing each.
VEHICLES MOVEMENT+ARMOR - Tank and IFVs feel slightly too responsive to me, and a little too squishy. This is probably a difficult thing to balance. There are situations where a tank seems to made of paper and others where it seems completely invincible with 2+ engineers behind it.
VEHICLE CAMERA - I am begging for a free look button for the pilot, let me look around the cockpit. Letting the attack helicopter gunner exit the camera view and see out of the cockpit was also an excellent feature I remember from BF4. I hope I just couldn't find the keybind and it's already there or coming with week 2 or the release.
VEHICLE SPAWNS - So all battlefield vets know about people camping the deployment for the jet, the heli, and so forth. Why not just implement a spawn queue for it? Then the team can see hey someone is queued to spawn on the jet, so we don't have 6 people waiting 2 minutes to spawn after they missed clicking the jet. Make the rush to take the jet happen with an instant result say when it's at 10%, instead of the click spam battle happening after a minute of waiting. I also noticed that the MBT spawn on Liberation Peak isn't registered at all, you just sort of notice it is active and then run to it. Is that intended?
MOVEMENT - So i can take the knife out and run around like counterstrike but the knife doesn't hit hard enough to kill in under 2 strikes. just taking the knife out to run faster and then not giving that playstyle any competency is strange. I get why you didn't go full call of duty on it and i appreciate that, but it just seems like a weird phenomenon in game as is. Maybe just run faster any time you hold a gadget, instead of only the knife? Otherwise, why?
EXPLOSIVE DAMAGE - The grenade launchers are a little too good and the RPG (vs infantry) and frag grenades are a little too weak.
SPAWNS - This really needs some attention in the week one maps. There are multiple spawn locations and areas a player can climb to that can either be exposed to the enemy spawn, or have a view into it. The enemy should not be able to have a jump on you immediately unless you spawn at a contested objective, or on a squad-mate.
MAP FLOW+SIZE - The 'flow' of most map's gameplay has a great foundation. The movement changes work with it and I disagree with the notion of simply calling it call of duty. HOWEVER, the week 1 maps feel a bit too tight in conquest and with predetermined urban pathing. I hope that 2042 hasn't scared the developers away from the SCALE that made previous titles shine. I hope we will see maps that are larger than what was shown off in week 1, where vehicles have to transit to an objective and there can be multiple aircraft of each type in the air on both teams. Personally I wouldn't be bothered at all if this mostly came from rereleasing classic maps. Caspian Border, Golmud Railway, Silk Road, etc all come to mind from BF4 as examples of maps that had scale on the forefront of gameplay.
SCOREBOARD - Very small nitpick but I would prefer there to be a TOP PLAYERS as well as TOP SQUAD leaderboard for all game modes.
COSMETICS - Please keep everything in touch with the existing game universe. Silly patches or emblems should be the extent of comic relief. Please no golden guns, anime characters, and so forth.
CONQUEST+CLASSES - I strongly prefer closed weapon conquest and would prefer for the conquest players not to be divided to allow a medic to snipe for example. This sort of points out to me that the Assault Class may be pretty weak now that it is not longer the combat medic. If breaching and tubes is all this class has to offer, I don't really see the value it adds to the team. A CQB recon loadout can do everything they can plus has helpful gadgets instead of a useless injection. To me, the extra primary weapon really doesn't add anything but novelty like running a shotgun sniper. Maybe adrenaline shot should very briefly increase TTK or significantly and immediately increase regeneration. It seems very insignificant to me as is. Additionally, auto-spot for recon is somewhat broken, maybe needs a range debuff for the secondary weapon. I can scan the entire map and tag the enemy with my pistol out and no scope flash until I want to take a shot. I should need binoculars or an unarmed to gain that sort of advantage.
WISH - Hardcore mode, Carrier Assault
