Battlefield 6 (2042) freeze/crash and BSOD

It has been a rough week, but problem solved.

So as the title proposes, i have been encountering the same kinds of chrashes in BF6 aswell as BF2024. When i load the game for the first time it would crash/freeze after 2-5 minutes. When restarting the game after this occurance it would reboot my system after a BSOD after 0-2 minutes of playing.

What i have tried;

  • Updating and re-installing drivers for Windows and hardware
  • Biosupdate
  • Following the system requirements stated on the EA page [TPM 2.0 Enabled, UEFI SECURE BOOT Enabled, HVCI Capable, VBS Capable]
  • Turning off all overclocking settings [EXPO, XMP]
  • DISM fixing
  • WinDbg troubleshooting - here i found some interesting stuff you'll see below -
  • Stress testing system for hours [CPU, GPU, RAM and Storage modules]
  • Altering settings in Windows Security Settings [Exploit protection] This seemed to help alot of users
  • Running EA, BF6(2042) and steam in compatibility(windows8) modes
  • Repairing game files, reinstalling game
  • Repairing EA Anticheat files, reinstalling them

My Rig;

  1. ASUS ROG STRIX B650E-F GAMING WIFI
  2. AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D
  3. Sapphire NITRO+ AMD RADEON RX 7900 XTX Vapor-X 24GB
  4. Corsair DDR5 Vengeance RGB 2x32GB 6000

My findings in Logs and WinDbg

For me my filedumps after BSOD crash where consistently the same after every crash

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (a)             > most likely software issue (usually need a driver update)

IMAGE_NAME: eaanticheat.sys

FAILURE_BUCKET_ID: AV_eaanticheat!unknown_function

Thanks to HighVoiceComputing (youtube)  who has thought me a ton about WinDbg in a short time. I was able to narrow the problem down to a compatibility issue with other software.

What worked for me

Use an  (Revo)Uninstaller to delete Epic games launcher/files - (no need to uninstall the games such as Fortnite or Rocketleague)

Delete BF6(2042) from EA application - Or Epic games Obviously

Install BF6 through Steam

Reboot PC

Launch game and have an absolute smashing time in Battlefield 6, what an amazing game it seems to be.

Analysis from a PC novice who struggled to build his own PC

In essence i think EA Anticheat - Javelin anticheat, interracts in an unhealthy way with Epic games launcher or their anti-cheat.

I haven't found a file in logs or WinDbg that concretly confirms this theory, but finally being able to play after all that work lead me to the conclusion.

For the small playergroup that still has issues after the first 11 noted fixes, i hope this helps.

Kind regards,

Someone who has been humbled and has learnt a lot about debugging!

    I would like to add that this problem probably only exists for people who have their EA and Epicgames accounts linked. Because when i started BF6 in the EA app, it created a path through Epic games software to startup which probably created a collision in softwares. I guess...
