Game Client Hard Freezes after 1-2 minutes

Hello, I'm aware the Open Beta hasn't started yet, but I'm already encountering a pretty catastrophic technical issue with the game client on PC via Steam.

I have the game fully installed, set up with Secure Boot and fully launched into the main menu. However, after around 1 to 2 minutes, the game suddenly hard freezes with all menu music completely cutting out and no longer responds, forcing me to kill the game in Task Manager.

The game also seems to crash if I tab out on Borderless mode (which is default). I've solved this by switching to exclusive Fullscreen, but this does not fix the systematic crash after 1-2 minutes. The crash seems to happen at exactly the same time every time, though I haven't timed it out exactly.

I have attempted to idle on the splash screen tabbed in, tabbed out, or doing various actions like doing my keyboard settings, but my game freezes without relation to what I'm doing in the main menu.

Checking with my Task Manager, the game is using a reasonable amount of resources (around 40-45 % of my CPU and 25 % of my GPU), but when the game hard freezes suddenly shoots up to 80 % CPU usage. The game seems unrecoverable from that point.

I am above the minimum specs as stated on Steam, and while my CPU is slightly under Recommended stats (AMD Ryzen 5 5600X owned compared to AMD Ryzen 7 3700X recommended) I believe my system should be performant enough to run the game without a hard hardware crash

I've tried to look for a crash or dump log but can't seem to find one in my AppData folder. I'm ready to provide it if asked. Obviously I'd prefer to be able to actually play on the 7th, as I suspect this hard freeze is going to block me otherwise.

Partial specs:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X 6 Core Processor

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 8 GB VRAM

RAM: 16x2 GB DDR4

SSD: NVMe

  • Okay, after testing on my end, I can confirm this is actually the solution, at least for this problem, thank you Shopmill for going the extra mile to figure it out properly. Now that I recall, I remember modding Rimworld heavily in the past and messing with that specific setting. It looks like you need to disable "Randomize memory allocations (Bottom-up ASLR)" for Battlefield 6 to make your game not crash, probably due to Javelin Anti-Cheat shenanigans. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES ATTEMPT TO DISABLE THIS SETTING GLOBALLY, THIS COULD BE DANGEROUS. ONLY EXEMPT THE BATTLEFIELD 6 EXE AS SHOWN HERE

For your information, Battlefield 6 Open Beta is in a folder called "Glacier Events" on Steam, and the exe is named bf6event.exe.

If you're still crashing after this, I'm so sorry I couldn't help you fix it alongside me, but this at least seems to cover crashes specifically where the game boots up properly but then crashes either immediately or after a minute (probably when the anti-cheat tries to check through your memory and Windows blocks it)

Marking this as solution for the time being, feel free to make another thread if you still crash after this

Wow, that actually worked, that is... I don't think I've ever had to add malware/exploit exceptions to a video game like, ever. I wonder which of those 7 settings did it

For people who want to try this, follow the guide carefully. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES ATTEMPT TO DISABLE THESE SETTINGS GLOBALLY, THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. ONLY EXEMPT THE BATTLEFIELD 6 EXE AS SHOWN HERE

I'm not gonna mark this as a solution for now in case a dev wants to have a proper look. I don't understand why a problem like this would only happen on our systems but not on basically every Windows system, my antivirus is fully updated and I don't have alternate AVs running

Holy **bleep**ing **bleep** dude, this actually fixed it for me! I went ahead and disabled all possible options for the .exe and now, after a graphics driver update afterwards, it loads! Would have never thought about that as the solution.

I might have found a fix for this issue, i've tested it on BF2024 and was able to play again without freezing.
Currently running the BF6 Open Beta menu without any issues.

Try settings as stated in below reddit post:

Experiencing the same issue, the only difference is that my PC hard freezes and I have to manually restart. Not keen on experimenting and hoping there would be some patch.

Edit: I saw from another post that FPS is unlocked in the menu which has caused issues for my rig in the past. Once I set a limit in the AMD control panel then the issue did not come up again so far, though I only messed around in the menu for 5-10 minutes.

    Specs if it matters:

    CPU: Ryzen 5 7600X

GPU:  Radeon RX 6750 XT 12GB

    RAM: 2x16GB DDR5 5600MHZ

I've done a rollback of GPU drivers > No Fix
Full reset of Secure Boot, removed keys etc > No Fix

Im thinking the new anti-cheat is for some reason triggering something which is causing this issue.

Doesn't give a proper error though, just a freeze after 1-2 minutes, then it take a couple of minutes to shutdown the game.

A mayor flaw if you ask me.

Exactly the same, Bf1 runs fine, BF5 and 2042 crash after a minute or so just like the open beta

Yeah, i'm having the exact same issue as you are having. Happens on both 2042 and 6. Both require Secure Boot so i'm guessing that's what causing this. I have no issues when playing BF1.

Also updated the Nvidia driver, but haven't tried a rollback yet.

At this point I've tried everything I can think of, including a full DDU GPU driver wipe and reinstall to make sure I don't have outdated driver files interfering with the game, and fully reinstalling BF6. Nothing works, -nothing-. I guess I didn't try a driver rollback but I'd really like to get someone to troubleshoot this with me. I literally have crash dumps I can't even send because the forum is blocking them

I'm still trying to resolve this on my end. I have generated 3 GameStall logs and 3 CrashDumps after checking my folders, but I can't seem to attach them to this topic for some reason, so if a dev still wants them they'll have to signal how I'm supposed to send them. I definitely can't read them on my own since it's not a text file.

I've noticed this is a recurring issue with previous titles with the game crashing soon after startup repeatedly, so I'm going to go through a list of common fixes to see if there's any chance of it working. I'll note I have the latest NVIDIA driver (580.88 release 31/07/2025) if this helps investigate this, I'll try a GPU driver rollback as an absolute last resort
