Main Menu Audio Distortion — Muddy / Surround Downmix Bug
Platform: PC (Windows 11)
Headsets tested: RIG 900 MAX HX (wireless, Dolby Atmos capable), SteelSeries Arctis 9X (wireless, Windows Sonic capable)
Issue: Audio is clear during loading/intro screens, but once the main menu loads the sound becomes muddy, echoey, and unbalanced — as if it’s being incorrectly downmixed from surround to stereo. The distortion remains in matches until quitting the game.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Launch Battlefield 6 Open Beta on PC.
2. Use a wireless headset (RIG 900 MAX HX or Arctis 9X tested).
3. Audio sounds fine during loading screens.
4. Audio quality drops significantly once the main menu loads.
Troubleshooting attempted:
- Forced stereo output in Windows
- Disabled all spatial audio (Dolby Atmos, Windows Sonic)
- Tested wired mode via 3.5mm cable
- Updated headset drivers/firmware
- Tested with multiple wireless headsets
Results: Other games sound fine. Issue appears specific to Battlefield 6 Open Beta.
Notes: Likely an audio engine bug where the Frostbite engine forces surround/spatial output in menus, causing poor downmix for stereo headphones.
