Memory leak issue perhaps?

I’m waiting in the beta queue and I noticed that after a while the game would stutter, stop responding, and then eventually crash while in the queue. I kept having to rejoin at the end of the queue which was annoying, but I decided to try about 3 more times with the same result so I began investigating. I noticed that the RAM/memory usage for the beta client would continuously increase over time and right as usage went to 99% the game crashed. I originally had 32GB ram, then installed more to give myself 48GB and some room to sit and wait in the queue. I suspect a memory leak is the issue. I was also getting errors on Chrome and Brave browsers when trying to load a page while in the queue and the error code it would give me said: “Out of Memory” but I didn’t think to take a picture of this.

The images show the memory usage for the beta client and you can see BF6 is using way more than any other process. There is a 2 min difference between two of the photos so you can see the game using up more RAM over time. I’ve read some other posts where people say the game hovers around 16GB RAM usage for them, so it may be a personal PC issue and not a game issue, however I am highly doubtful.

I will reinstall my AMD drivers just to be sure this isn’t the cause, and if it is I’ll post a reply saying so.

Specs:

i7-10700K

RX 9070 (AMD Driver version 25.8.1)

48 GB DDR4 Corsair Vengeance

  • Update & possible solution: I uninstalled from Steam and installed and launched on EA App instead and there is no longer a memory leak. There may be an issue with the Steam version of the beta. So if you're having issues with your game crashing due to high RAM usage/suspected memory leak and you're launching from Steam, try installing and launching from the EA App; it worked for me.

I am now sitting around 3GB RAM usage rather than 20GB and after 15 min of sitting in the lobby screen, it is not increasing. Try the above and check your resource monitor just to be sure the issue didn't persist.

Edit & new solution (thanks to SAAC_Brill): The launcher is likely not the root cause, read the replies in this thread and check if disabling anti-aliasing, upscaling, and/or frame-gen fixes the RAM usage. If not, try the original solution of uninstalling and switching launchers.

    further update:

    SAAC_Brill:
"Try to disable DLAA/DLSS/XeSS/Frame generator. That was the reason of memory leaks for me"

^ I just found that this works too. I went back to the Steam version and disabled anti-aliasing & upscaling and no memory leak now on Steam; these all work properly on the EA App version as far as I know. (Also check frame-gen; I enabled frame-gen and it didn't cause any memory leak for me, but it might not be the case for you so try all 3 settings and watch your RAM usage)

YES after a lot of install uninstall, I found out that the launcher was'nt the problem. SAAC_Brill is somehow right. It's an xess bug. It only pop when I used xess ou xess native aa. Fsr and taa works great on this game without the bug.

I hope amd will bring FRS4 to rdna3 on windows. It currently works very well on my linux session. But due too javelin bf6 is windows only atm

My games doesn't crash, but after 5-10 minutes i have extreme stutters for like 10-20 seconds, then it runs smooth until next stutters. Only in Steam version, EA App version runs fine.

Yeah the same happened to me, I was able to play about a match and half before the usage crept up to 99%. I know when it has taken up most of my RAM and it’s about to crash because weapon models stop loading and the sound cuts off in the deploy screen. Sucks but I’m hopeful for a fix soon.

Update: Reinstalled/repaired AMD driver(s) and the memory usage is not skyrocketing as fast, but still slowly creeps up. Also, there was no longer a queue to join so I didn't have to worry about sitting there waiting and it inevitably crashing.
