Mini Map Orientation?

With mini map rotation turned off, the mini map orients itself incorrectly. It should  be that the top of the map is north, bottom is south, etc. However, it varies by map and this is insanity. On one level, the orientation is something like top equals south southeast. Please correct this so that north is always the top of the map when rotation is turned off, this is critical to orientation and communication with squad mates and becomes especially confusing when the compass is turned on.
