Unable to change weapon attachments mid-match

Once I'm in a match, if I try to add an attachment to my weapon on the respawn screen then it equips for a fraction of a second before immediately flipping back to whatever I had attached previously. Was only able to change attachments in the main menu. Happened over the span of multiple hours in different lobbies and with different weapons.
