BF6 Matchmaking STILL Broken After Season 5 – Empty Servers & Bots (PS5/EU)
EA/DICE, we need to talk about the current state of Battlefield 6 matchmaking. This is unacceptable for a full-price multiplayer game.
I am playing Battlefield 6 on PlayStation 5 in Europe, and the matchmaking experience has become increasingly frustrating.
I purchased this game to play large-scale multiplayer battles against REAL players – not to spend my evenings searching for matches, joining nearly empty servers, or fighting AI bots.
And I am clearly not the only one experiencing these issues.
1. My personal experience – October 15–16, 2026
On October 15, I spent approximately 20 consecutive minutes trying to find a proper multiplayer match. After repeatedly searching and failing to find a satisfactory game, I eventually gave up.
On October 16, I experienced the same problems again during European evening hours.
Here is what repeatedly happens:
Matchmaking places me into almost empty servers.
Lobbies are filled with AI bots instead of real players.
Matches often fail to attract enough human players.
I waste significant amounts of time leaving lobbies and searching again.
Certain game modes and maps are practically impossible to enjoy under these conditions.
When Season 5 launched, matchmaking actually worked properly for me for approximately one day. I was finally able to enjoy full matches with real players.
But shortly afterward, the same problems returned.
How can matchmaking function properly one day and become nearly unusable again immediately afterward?
2. EA/DICE has already officially acknowledged matchmaking problems!
On October 9, Battlefield Communications publicly acknowledged that backend changes introduced on September 30 had caused:
An unexpected increase in matches filled with bots.
Lobbies failing to populate properly.
Excessive waiting times for matches to fill.
EA/DICE subsequently announced additional fixes and stated that matchmaking stability had returned to normal.

But based on my experience and recent community reports, the problem clearly has not been resolved for everyone.
3. More players are reporting the same problems – even after Season 5!
These are real community reports, not hypothetical complaints.
October 14 – European player cannot find proper matches after Season 5:

October 16 – PS5 player reports almost unplayable matchmaking, with some playlists heavily populated by bots:

October 16 – European player reports only approximately 1 in 10 matchmaking attempts results in a proper game:

October 16 – PC player reports up to 75% bots in certain game modes:

Additional complaints in EA's own official forums:

Of course, not every player is affected equally. However, the number of similar reports deserves a proper technical investigation.
4. Enabling crossplay is NOT an acceptable universal solution
I also tested enabling crossplay on PS5.
However, playing against PC users with potentially different input devices, frame rates, and hardware capabilities significantly changes the experience for me.
I deliberately play on PlayStation and prefer competing against other PlayStation players.
EA officially allows console users to disable crossplay. That option should remain practically usable.
EA's official crossplay documentation:
https://help.ea.com/en/articles/battlefield/battlefield-6/cross-play/
If the only way to find populated servers is to enable PC crossplay, the underlying matchmaking problem has not been solved for players who prefer console-only matches.
EA should also consider allowing PlayStation and Xbox players to match together without being required to play against PC players.
5. Video evidence – My own PS5 recordings
I am documenting these issues with personal gameplay recordings showing the matchmaking experience.

These recordings show what players like me are dealing with when we simply want to play the game we paid for.
6. What I expect from EA/DICE
We need actual answers and concrete improvements.
Investigate why PS5 matchmaking repeatedly creates empty or bot-heavy lobbies, including during European peak hours.
Prioritize filling existing servers with real players instead of spreading players across numerous partially occupied servers.
Provide better matchmaking transparency, including human player counts and server population.
Offer an option to wait longer for a full human-player lobby instead of automatically starting a bot-filled match.
Improve console-only matchmaking, including consideration of a PlayStation/Xbox-only crossplay option.
Publish an official explanation of the continuing reports after the October 9 fixes and provide a concrete plan to resolve them.
I also believe a proper server browser and persistent multiplayer servers should be essential features of Battlefield.
I have already filed a formal complaint regarding the repeated limitations of this paid multiplayer product and am pursuing a partial refund.
This is not about attacking developers. It is about asking EA to deliver a reliable multiplayer experience.
7. COMMUNITY – PLEASE HELP DOCUMENT THIS PROBLEM!
If you are experiencing the same matchmaking problems, please like this post and leave a comment so EA/DICE can see how many players are affected.
Please include:
Your platform: PS5 / Xbox / PC
Your region: EU / NA / Asia / Other
Crossplay: ON or OFF
Affected game modes
Approximate matchmaking waiting time
How many real players versus bots you typically encounter
Screenshots or video evidence, if available
If you are not experiencing any problems, please share your setup as well. That information could help identify what is going wrong.
EA Community Managers: Please escalate this thread to the Battlefield development team and consider highlighting it so affected players can contribute their evidence in one place.
We should not have to spend 20 minutes searching for a playable multiplayer match in a game we already paid for.
WE WANT FULL SERVERS. WE WANT REAL PLAYERS. WE WANT MATCHMAKING THAT WORKS.
Please address this problem transparently and provide a lasting solution.
