[SOLVED] BF1 crash 0x186A1 – license activation blocked by anti-cheat
[SOLVED] BF1 closes after 30–60 sec with error 0x186A1 – license activation blocked by EA Javelin
Symptoms: Battlefield 1 (Steam + EA app) closes 30–60 seconds after launch, before the main menu. Error: “The game exited unexpectedly… (0x186A1)”. Event Viewer shows Event 1000 from EA Javelin Anticheat: “bf1.exe exited unexpectedly, exit code: 0x186A1”. No real crash report for bf1.exe.
Cause: the game license for BF1 was lost, and the game was waiting for re-activation. The old activation window (Core\ActivationUI.exe, “Activate your game – sign in with your EA account”) could not show up while the anti-cheat was running, so the game just timed out and closed.
Fix:
- Completely remove EA Javelin Anticheat: run EAAntiCheat.Installer.exe from the game folder → Uninstall All. If files can’t be deleted, close EA app/Steam, reboot and repeat, then remove the leftovers in C:\Program Files\EA\AC.
- Start the game – the activation window appears. Sign in with your EA account (email + password, reset it via “Forgot password” if you only ever signed in through Steam).
- Reinstall the anti-cheat (EAAntiCheat.Installer.exe → select Battlefield 1 → Install) and launch from Steam.
Extra: if ActivationUI.exe fails with error 0xc000007b, there is a wrong 64-bit msvcr120.dll in C:\Windows\SysWOW64. Install Visual C++ 2013 Redistributable x86 (12.0.40664) from Microsoft and choose Repair.
