I think ultimately that's what I want to see, not necessarily Russell but I would love to have Russell, Norris and Leclerc challenging Vax Merstappen for a title. I'd like to see how good these guys are in comparison without being held back by machinery. I guess that's maybe why I want Mercedes to get back in some form and Norris to leave McLaren.

I totally agree with you.
Lando’s current contract is meant to stretch until the end of 2025, however as we all know, contracts are just a piece of paperwork in F1 and can be broken.
And, we’ve seen it happen recently with this team (*coughcough* Danny Ric *cough*).

Nobody thought Lewis would leave McLaren, but he did. Lando leaving would be in some ways equally seismic.

Trouble is for drivers it’s probably even harder for them to know what team has the potential to be competitive the season they sign due to the cost cap. End of last season I don’t think anyone thought Aston would be on the podium after the first race.

Besides all this talk of Lando leaving due to an underperforming car is interesting. McLaren have been very open about their development and weren't as stubborn as Mercedes when they realised that the path they were going down wasn't going to work. I think when that upgrade comes, Norris will only then start looking at his options. It could be a really good car, we'll have to wait and see.
EA SPORTS FC™ TeamI think there would be success with the Top 3 teams which would be Mercedes, Red Bull or Ferrari.
- Ferrari have LEC and SAI and I think they will keep both. Also looking at the team last season and also first race this season, I think from a Lando perspective, I would like to avoid them.
- Mercedes would only make sense if Hamilton retires this season, but I don't see that happening.
- Red Bull are kind of happy with Checo, but I think they would be the ones going for Lando and try hard to get him into the team. Horner would do anything to get Lando into the RB, from how he talks about him and his abilities.

I'm not sure it would be, Vax Merstappen and Norris seem to be really good friends and I don't think Norris' attitude would allow it to get to such toxic levels we've seen with other driver pairings.

Being my self a Ferrari fan, i would love to see Lando at Ferrari. Leclerc is super talented and i think it has what it takes to be WDC but even if i like Sainz, somehow i don't think he has that extra to be WDC, i kind of see him like Checo in the last 2 seasons, constant for bringing points and that's it. I think Charles and Lando would be the best drivers pairing on the grid if somehow this happen.
Contracts always bear a heavy weight... Until they don't.
Contract terms are coined to be fulfilled, but they've all have a baked in failsafe in case one of the parties want to break away - a hefty penalty clause.
If RBR or any other team has that much of an interest in snatching Norris before his McLaren deal expires, there will be a pre stipulated fee for it.
What drivers or athletes in general often lament is not knitting in certain parameters to cheapen said fee or straight out cut them out of their contratual obligations if they so want to. Like delivering a car with this much performance in it, or adhering to a certain evolution path where they're able to hit certain benchmarks in R&D from one season to the next.
Norris in a red bull car would be interesting. And I dare say quite fitting! Could very much be a deliberate stirring to make a Perez extension cheaper though - or a comparable sweetener to Norris with McLaren, as contracts can basically always be amended.
And we're hearing things about Verstappen looking for a more interesting, appealing greenery too.
These rumors though are very Schrodinger in their way so to speak. They're all simultaneously nonsense and solid as gospel to a believer until some sort of resolution or development comes to light

But I assume if RB were to buy out Lando from his contract. I assume it would be millions. And those millions would come out of the teams budget. So would they be prepared to do that?

It’s a two way dance. But when I said Lando leaving McLaren would be seismic, I kind of think he would prefer to follow Lewis. I just don’t see him getting the “love” at RB or Ferrari that he would thrive on.
