@Ultrasonic_77I respectfully disagree with you point for reasons mentioned before
I don't think PSVR2 dev kits were even available to non-first-party studios when F1 23 development started.
As far as porting or development.
PSVR2 dev kits went out back in late 2021.
F1 already runs at 120fps on the PS5.
F1 already has VR support on PC.
It wouldn't cost as much as some are thinking to port the feature. I'm not trying to simplify the process, but it is a camera view with a much wider FOV. The pain/annoyance is probably addressing comfort (which they already have experience with on the PC version). The main menu and other aspects of the game wouldn't need to be in VR (like how GT7 does it).
PSVR2 has eye-tracking/Foveated Rendering to help run graphic intensive games in VR.
As far as money and incentive... F1's audience is already going to buy the newest version. Many at launch, some after launch. Adding a VR to the PS5 version could push someone who is not even interested in F1 to buy the game. Hell there are folks who bought GT7, because of VR support, who are not even interested in racing games. I'm sure those GT7 VR owners wouldn't mind buying another VR racing game with an official license and more tracks.
And this is not even mentioning PS5 owners who have stopped buying the series yearly, or at launch yearly.
Imo, F1 in VR for the PS5 would be a feature that would help it stand out... help advertise the F1 game in general to more audiences. Just like what has happened with GT7. All these folks on Youtube streaming their races. Sure there is VR on the PC version. But the PC version needs to be compatible on so many different kinds of PC setups, that not everyone would have similar experiences. On the PS5, it is one system... easy to setup and hop on..and stream if someone wants.
- 2 years ago@Afrikanxl I’m 100% with you, EA/Codemasters just don’t give a *. It’s not going to happen sadly, bit if they don’t care than why should i care about their game
- 2 years ago@ha6hk3w77mwj What's crazy is, I don't even think EA is behind this decision. I also don't think many on the Codies team are either. I'm sure they have GT7 and other racing games in the office. I'm sure they have a PSVR2 in the office. I'm sure they have played GT7 in VR and have taken note on things. They see how fun things can be. My gut just tells me the person in charge has just been stubborn on the idea since it was first brought to their attention (a few years back?). Didn't think GT7 VR would be possible the way it is. And by the time they saw the feedback GT7 was getting, it was too late.. all the attention was on releasing F123 the way they planned it.
Imo, the person in charge should have had a team working on the feature as soon as they saw GT7 in action.. to have the feature ready after launch to be patched in, to help sell the game (when at full price) for a new wave of sales.
But I get the feeling they might want to use this as an opportunity to sell a *new* feature for F124. The problem is they think that will work on their audience. Imo it will not. It actually makes me resentful about this year's version and next years version. I WOULD BUY BOTH AT LAUNCH/Full price IF YOU JUST ADD IT! But by holding out and saving it for next year, it puts a bad taste in my mouth....makes me not even want to buy both at full price.
I really am disappointed. I do hope EA WRC's team is paying attention to all of this. I expect VR at launch for that game and will buy it at launch. - 2 years ago@Afrikanxl You might be right however they can still patch it in later, it’s not to late. they could have out sourced psvr support to another studio (they did it before) what i find weird is that with F1 ‘22 when asked about psvr2 support on a later stadium they said “at the moment there are no plans but never say never” now with F1 ‘23 it’s just NO. As for WRC i’m not a big rally fan so i most likely won’t buy that either way

Look at how many people got into F1 off the back of drive to survive who previously had no interest in the sport. It was huge. Its up to EA and codemasters to create the buzz around their game, because in the VR space this would have been no1 in the charts for sure given its a fully fledged game and people are clearly wanting more of what GT7 offered on PSVR2
The fact this topic has been hovering around at the top of the forum for months now says to me people really want this feature and if you have the headset already its likely to be in your top three features for sure.
I really hope they see sense, reassess this decision and patch this in as soon as possible.
- 2 years ago@lufc100 I have the headset, pre orderd it the moment GT7 was announced as a vr title. F1 and GT7 were my nr.1 games, GT7 is awesome in vr and delivers on expectations. How cool would it be to drive a full season in F1 in VR. Having said that i don’t belive they will patch it in, i don’t even think they care much it’s just about money en sales, GT7 in made with passion and not just the vr part, in F1 sadly the passion is lost a long time ago they do the bare minimum every year. A simple livery update a driver roster update and that’s it same engine sinds F1 ‘15. So i don’t see any reason why they would invest in the game after release, they will proberly be busy with patching out the bugs for the first 6 months and after that any new feature will be put in F1 ‘24

Guys no doubt PSVR2 would be great if properly implemented. But you’re looking at it from your perspective and bias.
Look at it from EA’s point off view. Cash is king. Shareholders are gods. EA would have absolutely crunched the numbers and if it was a sure fire win! “It’s in the game”. But it’s not. It’s as Simply as that. They are not the only developer. I just looked on PSstore for psvr2 and there are currently just 2 AAA games and both made by Sony Studios,
It’s all good to dream just don’t get carried away. They won’t put it “in the game” until they know for certain it’s worth it. Like I’ve said big developers don’t like gambling trying to set trends they like to follow them.
Fortnite… Sets a trend. Activision, Ubisoft and EA follow.PSVR2 Once it establishes a trend. The rest will follow.

@ScarDuck14I think you're making the implementation of VR harder/bigger than it would be for this particular game. This would not be a title built from the ground up for VR, or a stand alone product. A standalone VR F1 game would indeed be an investment/$$$, I agree.
It is basically a patch enabling a camera view that has a FOV (Field of View) of 110°, then some coding for it to trigger right before a race starts. Then linking a free cam to the headtracking of the headset. OBVIOUSLY there is more work than just that, regarding developing it and optimization, but that's just the gist of it.
We don't need to push and turn individual buttons and nobs on the steering wheel. The controls would be the regular gamepad or wheel.
110° FOV
locked 60fps reprojected to 120fps, or if possible native 90fps.
Again they already have their engine running at 120fps with a smaller FOV on the PS5... I'm positive with Foveated Rendering, they can get 60fps > 120fps... or native 90fps locked.
For this year's version I don't need to be in a showcase room where I walk around any of a car models or other fancy stuff. I just want to race in VR
I don't know if you have the PSVR2 and GT7 yourself, but here is a quick video of how they chose to implement it for now. Everything else is just the regular 2D menu like on a TV, until your race is about to start.

@AfrikanxlI’ve not once said it will be hard.
It’s purely about bang for buck. If EA thought they would get enough bang it would be in the game. But I’m assuming their projections say next year they will get the band they want.
I go back to the only 2 AAA games currently on sale that support PSVR2 Are both Sony games.
Despite F1 gains in popularity in recent years. It’s still a niche sport. Majority people who buy this game are F1 fans who casually game. This game doesn’t sell anywhere near the numbers on PS as GT7. Let alone to those who have also bought PSVR2. EA will play the waiting game when they are convinced adding PSVR2 to the game will be worth doing. Currently they do not. EA earns billions every year. They don’t need to rush into anything. No matter how much we few want it.

As for WRC i’m not a big rally fan so i most likely won’t buy that either wayI don't think anything has changed. the 'never say never' type of comments referred to PSVR2 implementation coming in future games not during the F1 22 lifecycle. Also note there has been no official 'no' this year, just people speculating but I strongly suspect this just remains a possibility for future titles. Note that it's inherent for makers of annual titles to want a list of new feature that they can highlight with each new game, so if PSVR2 support isn't in F1 23 at launch then, to me, this makes it extremely unlikely that they'll add it post-launch. The only time major features have been added in this way that I'm aware of is where they'd be planned to be there at launch but had to be delayed. This was the case with cross-play for example.
- 2 years ago@ScarDuck14 You are 100% right that we are bias, how ever saying they only put it in the game if they know it’s worth it isn’t realy the case. Look at F1 ‘22 for exemple, putting super cars, clothes, table’s, couches and all that lifestyle crap in the game wasn’t realy worth it was it? I’m pretty sure porting vr cost less money and time than building the whole life part from scratch. Life nobody asked for and nobody wanted, atleast with vr they know people want it
- 2 years ago@Ultrasonic_77 There has been a official no this year from EA

@ha6hk3w77mwjF1 life was pathetic to be sure. But it wasn’t nothing more than an attempt to generate mo money by selling skins. Nothing technical about it other than a few artists. Plus the whole clothing thing was already being designed for NFS Unbound which was always its main purpose. I think they just tried to shoehorn it in with F1 to see if it stuck…. Sofas etc don’t take up time and resources being tested etc
- 2 years ago@ScarDuck14 Supercars do, building the whole life part does. Don’t forget we are not talking about building vr from scratch, they allready have it just port it and finetune for psvr
- ScarDuck142 years agoLegend
Ok as this is just going round and round. I won’t reply anymore. Yes PSVR2 would be awesome in the game. But it’s not. And pretty sure it won’t be until next year. Doesn’t matter if EA missed the boat this year. They will just as easily catch the next one with out much inconvenience to them.
- 2 years ago@ScarDuck14 I’m 100% with you on that. I’m 99.9% sure it won’t happen this year. I’m not saying EA missed the boat or any of that, i’m pretty sure the game will sell pretty much in line with other titles. All i wanted to say is “i don’t get why psvr is skipped” and every reason people give, isn’t realy logical exept for maybe the cost for development, but it’s just porting how much can it cost compared to life for example
- ScarDuck142 years agoLegend@ha6hk3w77mwj Ok one last time😂
I think a lot of the reason is for decades VR had been hailed as the next big thing and the future. But just like 3D TV it’s just failed to gain any meaningful traction. So companies are reluctant to fully invest in it and adopting the wait and see approach. - 2 years ago@ScarDuck14 I get what you’re saying but in the case of F1 you are wrong. They have invested in it and made it fully working in vr.
- ScarDuck142 years agoLegend@ha6hk3w77mwj Fully working? Ok I’m wrong 🙄

Well... No VR support for F1 this year...
It is like it is.
To me it is really strange from EA. I'm pretty sure, that 95% PSVR2 owners racing sim fans will miss then F1 23. At least me and my friends, who own PSVR2, we decided to skip F1 23.
And even more - EA loses quite a lot buyers PLUS they lose much more! Like I said in one earlier post - right now theres no "decent" racing games for PSVR2 (except GT7)... And theres lack of other VR genres too... I'm pretty sure, that right now there are plenty buyers, who will definitely buy F1 23, if it supports VR, even if they normally don't play racing games... Right now is perfect time to ATTRACT players to racing sims... And to be first, it's huge "a head start"...
Year after, and I'm pretty sure, that then there are hundred games for PSVR2, including some racing games... And after year, PVSR2 owners are much "LESS HUNGRY".
Strange from EA.
Anywy... It is like it is... Too bad, but well. Maybe next year.
- 2 years ago@ScarDuck14 Sure for PC it's 10 000 times more complicated to make "bugfree" game...
All machines uses different drivers, GPUs, CPUs, memorys, hard drives, etc etc etc... To run smoothly on all these combinations is ridicilously "hard"...
PS5 - ony machine, one GPU, one CPU... - ScarDuck142 years agoLegend
@Toy4584Yes Ive argued the point many times that games on console shouldn’t have bugs as if it works on one it should work on all.. Whereas figuratively speaking no 2 pcs are the same.
But to say it fully works on PC is wrong. - 2 years ago@ScarDuck14 I never said it runs smooth😂 but you know what i mean

Whether this panned out or not is a different question. Personally the idea of lamps and sofas as rewards for good performances in an F1 game still blows my mind, and I'm sure there will be a point in the future when newer players will think we're making stuff up if we mention it!
