[...] a new car upgrade system that sees players earn parts to change their vehicle’s attributes.
These upgrades, Insider Gaming sources say, can be earned through challenges and by winning races and meeting win conditions.
[...] If you happen to get parts you don’t want to use, you can salvage them for extra money or expertise
Hmm... Not my cup of tea. Reads like the seeds of a loot box system.
We all know the R&D we had was chronically unsatisfying. It's been all but broken, if not actually broken, once you got past two or three seasons worth of upgrades.
But still felt more authentic than "George, we need you to finish 5th so that we get to unwrap that big box on the garage. We don't know yet if it's a new front wing or that new push-rod rear suspension you wanted, but it does smell like a blue rare part and we're all counting on you! If Lewis finishes on top 5 too he'll open a purple ultra rare part!"
Edit: tagging @TotosHeadphones as you posted the same piece on the other thread. Please be more optimistic than this poor friend of yours that's still sour for losing the hexa last December 🥲
Really, it does sound like the beginnings of a loot box system but I'm hoping that @s00zster is on to something with his recollection of a previous game's challenge system. I too am quite concerned about this "Boost" thing. Boost in F1 doesn't sound good... It's not Formula E or F-Zero....unless....

@TotosHeadphonesCan't think of a single instance where a "boost" feature would make my experience more enjoyable in these games.
Like, boost what? Pit stops? Repair time? Setup changes? ERS regen? Top speed? "R&D" progress? Driver development? My buffet and catering services' budget? My fictional employees' wages?
For real, spent 2min typing this trying to come up with a "hey, that'd be nice indeed" scenario.
I do have a strong impression of what "boost" usually means in modern videogames though 🥲
Nah, I'm signing off for today. It is not paying off putting this much thought over rumors and I am not one to voluntarily beat myself with a stick. I always ask @ScarDuck14 for that.- TotosHeadphones3 years agoSeasoned Ace
@mariohomohAs somebody who spent a few years dedicating my life to Warframe, boosts were only useful when trying to beat RNGesus Loot boxes.
I'll now be the half empty guy. - ScarDuck143 years agoLegend@mariohomoh I think you maybe right with this one 😉

Theres a lot of stuff going down the wrong way in this article, what irritates me the most is the "winning races" to improve car performance.. This whole upgrading system sounds a huge lot like Need for Speed to me which really isnt what the game should be going for the only hope i have is them talking about "this mode" so maybe its just a new mode?
Even getting strategists and sponsors etc. will probably just be the same mobile game level of depth - reach level A to upgrade to strategist X - not really hyped about that and salvaging parts you dont need for something extra sounds so not F1..
For those scared of the boost id say its nothing directly related to the driving but more like boost your career/team progress so people who want to spend the money will get faster upgrades or such.. Maybe it will just be a F1 ultimate car boost though lol
