R1 only works in Ultimate team, in Pro Clubs and Career mode controlled sprint doesnt work, players are taking horrible heavy touches, the ball doesn't stay close to feet, it's almost impossible to outrun defenders, R1 is important for change of pace to make defenders loose balance, without this defenders always stay glued to my players, no matter how fast my player is they always catch up.

After vigorous testing, I can say with certainty that this relates to the “authenticity features” setting in gameplay settings when authentic mode is enabled. You can mirror the settings on authentic in the “custom” sliders, but turn “authenticity features” off.
Obviously, this is going to impact the feel of the game. It will be significantly faster and easier. If you can live with that, fine, but if you prefer a realistic sim type experience, you’re going to have to stomach the lack of R1 dribbling.
