I'm led to believe there is some compatibility issues with the external hard drive and this game OR the game is installed on the external while the updates are installed on the internal which is why it keeps prompting to update it.

On Xbox there is an option to designate where you want updates, make sure you are selecting the proper hard drive on where they go. I recommend unplugging the external hard drive and delete any NBA Live data you have on the internal. Then, make sure you select updates to go to your external drive before launching the game again. Once it downloads the updates, try saving the roster in game.

Try launching again. If it occurs again, I would try deleting all data on the external and double-check the internal. Reinstall on the internal to see if there are any further issues.

This happens to me every time on Xbox one. Extremely frustrating. Takes 5-10 minutes.

  • This might be a very old thread (last post was back in 2020), but I can confirm that NBA Live 19 doesn't play well with external hard drives. It's due to the fact the game is constantly looking for updates and keeps reinstalling them to the internal hard drive (but can't access them due the game itself being on the external HDD). This even affects my XBox Series S. Therefore, I just moved the game from my external HDD to my XBox' internal SSD.

Apparently not even installing the game on my XBox Series S' internal SSD fixes this issue. And of course, all the fake "do X to fix Y" suggestions don't do diddly regarding fixing the issue. And of course all I hear is deafening silence regarding an ironclad fix or patch for this, considering this game is now considered end-of-life.
