Have you tried deleting the app and re-installed it? That clears up most in-game issues. As long as you login to the game with your Facebook/Apple/Google account you won't lose progress.
I have tried deleting the app and getting it back and it still says I can't play pvp. I thought maybe it would stop if new events came that also didn't work

Even if I switch teams it still doesn't work and it won't let me forfeit either.
