Checking from behind.

Can someone with more hockey knowledge than me tell me if checking from behind is allowed in ice hockey.

  • Hey there, @Stubo_NHL24

    This has a chance of happening in NHL 24 when a major is called for boarding. Otherwise, it's really not an easy one to accurately call since there is no first person view. The rule pertains to being hit from behind when the carrier is unaware of the player behind them. Since the cameras give you a bigger view of the ice, you're almost always aware when someone is behind you.

    @EA_Aljo I'm sure I have brought this up before, there is no major penalties called in the game. Out of the 100s of games I've played the worst I've ever had was a 4 minute penalty, which as far as I know that's for a double minor. Definitely no 5 minute.

    I've definitely seen major penalties. They're uncommon for sure, but they happen.

    If you do a dirty hit and injure someone then you are getting a 5min major.  I see them happen maybe once every 15-20 games played in 6s EASHL Club.

    @EA_Aljo I've gotten a 5-minute major (or game misconduct, can't remember) for "unsportsmanlike conduct" in online versus before. I don't even know HOW that was triggered as I never do anything intentionally dirty and just throw standard hits. It might have even been the AI that got that penalty for me.

    What triggers that?

    @NeonSkyline21

    I would need to see video of it. However, as with other penalties, it's an upgrade (downgrade?) based on the player's discipline rating.
