Goalie tether and hitting mechanics - Please correct this

  • The goaltending tether needs to be removed completely. There is no reason for the game to move a player involuntarily.
    • The goaltending job was a challenge the way it was and this has made it to the point people do not want to play goalie this season.
    • I know you want to promote more scoring but tethering the goalie is not the way to do it.
  • The hitting mechanics in the game have been nerfed way too much, I know the hitting last year was over powered, but this is too soft.
    • For those that do not like the total control buttons and prefer skill stick, the hitting mechanics have been really compromised.
    • Defense was tough enough last year when the tuned the skater to slow down when poke checking and now we have softer hitting.
  • Hello, @MHazz69

Goalie tethering is being addressed with an update that is planned to release by the end of October.

As far as hitting goes, are you pulling back on the right stick and then flicking up when you try to hit?

I am going to assume that I was the target of this statement and I get it. To answer your question, yes I played goalie in lacrosse and no there was no magical force that pulled me back to the centerline. However there was also not this concept where every time I'm in position, I am making the save. Goalies suffer from the same thing that causes professionals to miss wide open nets, human error. To put this into the game means you would have to introduce a form of RNG where, every now and then (i.e. 1 out of 20) that same shot from the same spot on the same "in position" goaltender squeaks by and in for a goal. A thing that if implemented into NHL 24 would create outrage (just look at the feedback regarding broken sticks and glass breaks). This is their way of incorporating a design of always being active on the stick while the puck is in your zone. A skill that when you make that mistake of letting go of the location on the stick or moving prematurely, you are capitalized on by the opposing team.

Do I agree that this was the solution? No I have said it before, it should have been something simple like goaltenders being forced to go butterfly to make saves on the five hole. See my previous comment for the reason but basically force goalies to go butterfly to save 5 hole type shots and to deflect shots more efficiently. This then allows players to shoot high for snipes when the goalie wrongfully anticipates a low five hole shot and goes butterfly early.

In the end people have been asking for gameplay changes and not just another copy paste of previous titles. Well now we have one in the form of new mechanics and features that have changed the way we play the game. Is it perfect? No but is it better? Yes. We all just have to give the game time and adapt to new skills but instead we jump on EA's throats for changing our game because now that advantage that we have had for playing all the previous years has diminished and we as a community don't seem to like that.
