Hitting While Trying to Shoot Not Fixed?

I thought attempting a hit when trying to shoot was supposed to be fixed?

Multiple times, loose pucks, and I'm in position to attempt a shot -- while holding LT too -- but my player will attempt a hit and ultimately I will be penalized for interference.

If the game does not think I'm in position to tap in a rebound, why can't I just do a whiff animation? Why do I have to do a crosscheck. The game is punishing me when the last thing I want to do is attempt a hit. This makes no logical sense. Punish me for poorly timing the rebound shot by WHIFFING. Don't punish me with a PENALTY. That makes no sense! Please, on all that's pure and true, FIX THIS. Thank you!

It's always been an issue a scrum in front of the net like in the Boston Maple Leafs game tonight where they kept hitting the puck trying to stuff it in the net by getting quick shots on it is impossible. It's been an issue for years, players will just not even try to tap it. They try and gather possession of it, or take a hit.
In goes into how puck possession works in the game, so I get how that is an issue. Not saying it's easily solved but has always been something that has bothered me. It's one of the few aspects where offense should be buffed.

I've asked for a new system (or at least an active/passive toggle) for years now; without completely changing control schemes or even adding button mapping (because let's be honest, it's getting out of hand now), I don't see there being a perfect middle ground everyone can agree on.
