Idea of EASHL club games with line changes feature
A couple years ago someone posted a new topic about the idea of this feature and I can't get it out of my head. It would be awesome to see this in NHL 25 or in future NHL games at least. One of the main innovations in NHL 24 was sustained pressure and I really like the idea behind that. I think that sustained pressure is a step in the right direction but the game still needs even more, something new and fresh.
Now what if we had line changes combined with that sustained pressure system in EASHL? Line changes could bring more realism and a whole new aspect to the game. Line changes would force players to think the game new ways. In NHL 24 players can create own skater profiles for home, away and alternate jerseys. Why could not we have two pro skaters and modify their details (names, jersey numbers, characters look, equipment, goal celebrations, animations, etc.) individually?
Then In club's lobby players could be able to choose loadouts they want for both skater profiles. For example if im playing as a centerman I would choose playmaker for skater 1 and two way forward for skater 2.
In gameplay when my first skater loses his stamina, I have to move him to the bench in order to get the second guy to the ice with full stamina. When skater's stamina is very low, his skating should feel almost as fatigued as under sustained pressure.
A couple things concerns me tho.
How to implement line changes to ai players?
How player stats should be counted if you have two skater profiles to play with? Is it okay to combine both skaters' stats, or what could be the best solution on this?
I am not a developer, I am a hockey fan and a gamer, so I have no idea how difficult is to implement a new feature like this or is it even realistic or possible.
- @MGrandalf64 I have talked about this line change idea in other topics and I see positives to having it.
Affects the Blue Line 5 man Trap Meta that has existed for years in EASHL.
It helps open the ice to more potential scoring opportunities.
Punishes the defense who are stuck in their own zone and rewards offensive pressure.
The best way to implement this without going crazy like having separate builds and player names and such, is to have simply a system where your stamina doesn't regenerate and you just have to skate to the bench to replenish that energy back to full. This would give the concept of line changes in while keeping the hassle of trying to make multiple players per person work out of the game. The reason I say this is because when Human goalies became skaters, it created major problems for stat tracking that they had to in the end, remove the feature and implement it 2 years later on so to avoid this issue I think my system could work.
