No you're not. You skate right into the puck carrier mashing poke check.. again:

Attacking the puck carrier was the right move, but once again you're mashing poke check and expecting to come out with an interception when this was a perfect time for an open ice hit.
Hitting poke check will negate a chance of interception during those frames. That's how real hockey works. If you've got one hand on the stick and you're just thrusting it randomly in the hopes you'll disrupt the puck - a well placed pass will go right through you. As it should.
@KidShowtime1867There was no manual poke here. This is one of several auto-animations you get when puck is in flight and your guy wants to intercept or disrupt. What exasperates this is that I get within stick/arm glitch territory because I'm too close or even in his stick. Even if there was a manual poke here, the issue is that in past games, there would be a loss of puck possession. Enough that players needed to skate for the puck. Since 23, the auto-animation to reached for pucks (a lot of the time, through sticks and bodies) seems to have been dialed up to where you can clip through sticks and the player with the puck regains possession. This is because pokes have become so weak that they are simply nudged off sticks for a half-second and auto-picked back up. Even if you are backing up in defend mode and don't "blind mash poke", good players know exactly when to use RS and not just a blue line deke and LS (in your example). I can almost forgive that scenario if I'm being too passive with every zone entry, but again, playing GOOD teams you have to be aggressive.

If we're going to have an honest discussion about what can and can't be done to improve defence, it's imperative that you be honest about what plays out in the clips you're providing.

This is not an auto-animation. This is a poke check and/or DSS being initiated at the exact time you are about to make contact/intercept the puck.
- Jammalammalam2 years agoSeasoned Veteran@KidShowtime1867 I'm not going to argue with you here on what I did, didn't do, and what the game automatically does in terms of interceptions and wonky lose puck animations. Quick question though, is being aggressive with a player coming right at you with a single "blind poke check" (because, you know, people create their builds around the poke) the new "poke spam"?

Never said it was perfect my dude. I understand a videogame cannot replicate real life. I'm not bitter towards developers for my lack of grasping mechanics and working with them in the state they're in to improve may chances of getting ideal outcomes.

I'm not a huge fan of less-than-skilled players being able to mash poke check and get the outcome they want when they've been burned already. That said, I think the rate at which this happens successfully is overstated.

It's actually a hitting animation.

LOL. Seriously... I just got caught in the auto-animation because the puck glitches off the guy's stick and slows for a half-second. D-men in 6's will know this when you're around the net, hovering on the goalie, and your guy auto-one-hands the puck as if they were reaching to intercept a pass, but the puck is too slow and your player winds up reaching and putting it into the net. Not sure I care anymore to keep trying to explain at this point.
In any case, beat #4 on the leaderboards tonight in what could be described as a well oiled machine of players that know exactly what to do to work the mechanics in their favor.

Great team (and they were just as good in 23 where we traded wins and losses as well), but as I said before, every time I play this game I'm playing against the mechanics first and the player second. There's skill in learning how to play against skewed mechanics that are heavily tipped to give the edge to the offensive side of the game. Like many teams that do well in the game, we've also been mastering using the mechanics to our advantage, and even though it works for us, I'll still be in these forums trying to fight for some semblance of fairness while HUT players continue to tell me what I'm doing wrong, what buttons I'm pressing, and using gif examples of playing defense against some of the worst HUT players I've seen instead addressing the mechanics of why people have to play the way they do.
Yeah. No thanks.

Another example of hitting mechanic being inconsistent:

@JammalammalamYou do know me and Showtime are 6s players right? I refuse to play things less than 6v6 humans.
I don't hide behind fake gamertags on forums. You can view me here.
https://www.ea.com/games/nhl/nhl-24/pro-clubs/playersAlso I will do all I can to make sure EA doesn't ever go down a p2w route for WoC. It's fine if they leave it alone for now. But who knows maybe they eventually go the NBA2K route.

The chances of WOC not being monetized much further in the next few years is probably really close to 0.

@KlariskraysNHLI hear that. My thought process (and take it how you want) is if you want to teach me how to play this game, you've got to be equal or better than me. Want to give me a synopsis on why a play might've been a success or failure? Fine, I can accept that, but I tend not to appreciate being told I'm wrong for doing said play when I'm well within the bounds of success, but get beat out by questionable mechanics. Want to tell me how you'd do it instead? By all means, but don't say that because I didn't do it your way is why the play failed. Each game mode presents so many different nuances that even though I think I'm a decent D in 6's, I would never feel like I could preach D to someone that plays HUT or OVP. The fundamentals might be the same, but the way players play are different. With that being said, I don't need to hide as well.

If you're on Xbox, feel free to add me as well if people want to play or play against. It's all good to me. As for WoC not being P2W, I think it's coming. I never thought I'd see the day when I play against a WEREWOLF with set stats in a CLUB GAME, but here we are.FYI. I edited out my team name. I'm sure if you have no life you can dig to find us, but I don't want it to be that easy to find the names of other team players when it's just me I'm referring to here.

Is this great thread now a place for a pissing contest ? Another reason why I stay far away from online as I possibly can 😐
- Jammalammalam2 years agoSeasoned Veteran
@PernellKarl027The main point of this thread was a discussion on the mechanics of the game being abused with people posting clips of mechanics being abused and generally what players are having to deal with during these games. Some people turned it into a critique of how people play the game, and even going as far as straight up telling people what they did or didn't do in a game. If you're going to tell me how to play the game then I'm going to ask you to bring your stats because I'm going to bring mine if you want to turn this into a, "What I would've done and what you should've done discussion" because I want to know exactly who's trying to coach me on how I play. Especially when the whole preface of posting in this thread is about the game's mechanics and NOT how you should be telling people how to play the game the way you do.

You don’t have to be a TOP player in EASHL 6's to know hockey or have a discussion with you. Why would someone with lesser stats can not chime in in a discussion of a play without you looking down on them ?
Look, you did it again in your last post right above 👆
You said:
@Jagavekov Well said! I'll be 100% honest with you, this is probably one of the first times I've seen HUT examples used where the offensive players are actually good and know the mechanics to look good. You seem to discriminate the HUT player base, as if it was surprising to you that that said player was actually good 🤔
Im an OFFLINE player only. I’ve played all my life, I’ve watched games all my life and I sure know how to play the game even if I’m not TOP Cheese in EASHL. Lots of people are in the same boat around these parts and maybe they play offline, maybe they play 3's, maybe they play HUT, maybe they play VS. But the fact is, there’s no need for a pissing contest.
The only play I’ve commented on in this thread was the play along the board, and I still believe it was a very bad play on both ends.
And the fact that you guys (online peeps) are always talking about mechanics of the game, makes me wonder how you guys actually play the game ? Seems like you are always trying to beat and fight against the mechanics/metas/glitch/exploits instead of just playing hockey. At the end or the day, that must be getting to you guys and in my opinion that’s not how the beautiful game of hockey should be played 😒
