Everything in this game right now, is done to counter online cheese and ballerinas and that reflects big time on the people that wants a true representation of the sport. I mean, this is supposed to be a hockey game, no ?
There's absolutely nothing done to counter online cheese. The same major cheese plays have been there for at least 2 years and only got worse. Skating in circles in the corner without passing, skating right at people along the boards, sitting in the slot defensively and letting the CPU defend, cross-crease passes being incredibly easy this year... I mean where do you see any attempt at countering cheese plays?

@couture2fat2fly Cross-crease passes being incredibly easy? Idk which game you've been playing but it seems like the AI picks off way more cross-crease passes than ever... at least in OVP. Maybe because OVP defenders actually have decent stats defensively?
Also, what do you mean by "skating right at people along the boards?" That doesn't even sound like an effective strategy let alone a cheesy one lol.
Sitting in the slot and letting the AI defend is something that people still do but it's debatable whether or not it's effective. The high-ranked OVP players I play against are all pretty aggressive defensively. I usually try to work the puck around the points and shoot for deflections if my opponent wants to build a wall around their goalie.
One area where they have UNDENIABLY countered cheese is getting rid of the LT/L2 abuse that led to the ballerina moves. So happy that's gone.

- Jammalammalam2 years agoSeasoned Veteran@NeonSkyline21 Probably dumb question, but I've never played OVP in my life. What "teams" do you use? Meaning, are you putting your own team together like using HUT cards?
- NeonSkyline212 years agoSeasoned Ace@Jammalammalam Ew of course not lol. I would never play a pay to win mode like HUT.
In online versus you just use NHL teams lol it's that simple. It's good old, old-fashioned, 1v1 "pick your favorite team" video game hockey. IMO it's the most pure way to play EA NHL but I know I'm in the minority. I don't really need customization and whatnot I just want to test my skill against another human's skill.- Jammalammalam2 years agoSeasoned Veteran@NeonSkyline21 LMAO. You and me both. I'm really hoping EA doesn't make WoC Pay To Win by making the decision to lock really good special builds behind a paywall. In either case, OVP sounds like a base stat mode that plays into my hope that one day EA scraps the COD-like skill perks and just gives players a pool of points to put in the base attributes and that's it. That would be a great push towards more sim and less arcade. 🙂 Might give Versus a try tomorrow.
