So you want to artificially force players to dump the puck when they don't want to? If my opponent refuses to engage me through the neutral zone, you're suggesting EA should introduce some type of artificial mechanic that forces me to play dump and chase, just to satisfy this 'need' to have the game be completely 'sim'? When in actuality, I can just walk into their D-Zone and maintain puck pussession.. like why in the world would I want to dump the puck when 80% of the user-base plays defense in such a way that allows me free reign into their zone?

Would you say the same if the example was "should players be forced to pass if the game doesn't require them to because then it's more 'sim'?"

Players shouldn't be forced to do anything. The freeodm that this game allows is what makes it fun. People like to claim the offensive freedom trumps defensive skill, but that's not the case at all. I think people just hate defending and their hatred for it makes it seem like it's 'harder' than offense.

I find this a super odd take but you're entitled to your opinion.

Oh, you mean like what they did with the artificial way of people cycling and playing in the offensive zone with the PRESSURE SYSTEM ? Because if it didn’t exist, people wouldn’t even sniff at the idea of making actual hockey plays…The reason why people don’t dump and chase, is because the ONLINE gameplay is not tight enough. The team on D is not pressuring you enough at the blue, so you can do whatever you want entering the zone like it’s a open buffet and also do the ballerina once in the zone.
I’ve said this before and will say it again. The speed and setup for online is all out of whack, therefore it doesn’t require real hockey plays to even have a sniff at the net.
So that’s what @Jagavekov was referring to when he said that it’s not normal that there’s more Michigans attempts then dump and chase in EAs hockey.

So what do you propose EA do to force players to dump and chase just because it's 'sim'?

Again, it’s not forcing EA to do anything to make it artificial… It’s supposed to be there by default. Organically… If the game played more like the REAL game, you would have to dump once in awhile, because sometimes you don’t have any other choice.
Its not FORCING them to dump just for the heck of it.

What do you think I am asking for? A special "dump in meter" where if you dump it in enough times it fills up and you get a boost and your opponent gets nerfed? That would be so inauthentic, gimmicky, and arcadey right?
The outcome I am talking about should be achieved through altering the mechanics to be more realistic. Everyone in this game has played an extremely passive forecheck, neutral zone, and defensive zone system for the past many years because the mechanics are so unforgiving for people who play aggressive defense.
The momentumless skating and the fact that the boards don't matter allow the puck carrier to prevent being angled out and evade forecheckers with ease, it is very difficult to put the puck carrier in a position that they can't escape out of. If you do happen to get in a bad position with the puck on the breakout, the way too forgiving passing and pass receiving mechanics let you make a no-look backhand pass to a player who is not facing you that is received with ease.
So no, it shouldn't be "artificial", making smart hockey plays should be incentivized by the game mechanics. A lot of it could be made better with just tweaks to the online slider set.

This is an awful take. You need to stop playing HUT. This is why you hate the mechanics so much. Come join the OVP world.

Here is a guy who says he is ranked #1 overall in versus playing against someone. Look at how the other guy plays the PK. Does this look like a team on the PK to you? Takes possession of the puck in front of their own net and doesn't ice it, but instead dances around/passes the puck around for like 15 seconds and ends up with a rush chance? Maybe the mechanics of this game (skating, passing, puck control, etc) has incentivized this kind of play instead of icing it on the PK and that is why people play this way? Do you think having to ice the puck on the PK is "too sim" for people that buy this game?

that's the AI passively backing up and failing to execute any sort of trap or contain, not the user in most cases. Users in turn have to play more passive and conservative because the AI arent programmed to execute any sort of real defensive concetps nor can they be trusted to maintain inside leverage on their maks in the zone which leads to easy slot passes. Users playing the way they do is a symptom of the AI.
