And a defender skating into his other defender and the goalie, preventing anyone from seeing that puck coming through:
And finally, a player with all of the open ice in the world to do whatever they want, completely unimpeded. You'll also notice the puck carriers feet aren't moving, they're holding the puck forehand to increase their agility, balance, etc and they use all of that to make a good play.
What do you think is wrong with this play?

Look at just a few clips of a game I played, I believe this is a good example of how the game has been dumbed down to cater to casual players. Legit plays being punished and dumb plays being rewarded.

Brutal. Those clips show that not only is the "exhaust engine" gimmicky, arcadey, and inauthentic, it doesn't even do what it was supposed to do. Puck movement resulting in high quality shots from high-danger areas were not rewarded, but forcing passes and one on one figure skating were.
- Jammalammalam2 years agoSeasoned Veteran@couture2fat2fly This is just a disgrace. The pressure system needs an overhaul or another tuning. At this point, I feel like players should just collapse to the middle, do nothing, and just stand there. Chasing the puck for possession is nearly impossible. Making a pass is nearly impossible to an open player if you manage to get the puck because the receiver flubs it because everyone is out of stamina. The last line of defense here is the dump when you get it, but like Aljo said in another thread, the dump was nerfed so it wasn't a "get out of jail free card", which is absolutely absurd.
I've also mentioned this before, especially in past games. The puck/player magnet is tuned up so high that separating puck from player is more of a chore than it should be. 23 had a decent balance between offense and defense (even though I think the auto-grabs that offensive players got was a bit much). I'm not sure why, but while in the D-zone I never get the benefit of auto pickups no matter what perk I'm using. Forward avatars will always auto-grab for loose pucks first. It's nearly impossible for "real" players to anticipate when the auto-grab is coming.
For instance when I poke and the puck is separated, but moving slowly, as a D-man I'm already trying to anticipate where the poke is sending that puck. However, when you're trying to retrieve the puck the forward will do an animation to grab at the puck. Doesn't matter if they're standing still or moving, but it's so disruptive to the flow of player that it makes defensive anticipation worthless.- Jammalammalam2 years agoSeasoned Veteran
Posting this here, since this seems to be the resident defense is gimped thread, because he actually is gimped from NHL 23.
Here's our resident "game is working fine" guy's comments on pokes & interceptions. @KidShowtime1867
"No they're not. People just think a poke check should work/interception should happen when they're not in position to do so. Look at the clips people post claiming poke checking is broken only to show they're mashing it, skating their player out of position and generally playing terrible defence. There's been exactly 1 clip posted of an actual glitch in puck interception."
Here's the trend of interceptions in 6's that can be added to ALL the other clips of one-sided mechanics in the game.
I suppose I shouldn't even try to anticipate intercepting passes, even though I 100% know that pass is coming. Somehow my player who is poised to intercept will flub it (doesn't matter of I have the better perks for interception or not or if it's in his vision). However, a forward zooming up the ice full speed will receive a pass perfectly even if the pass is out of vision and I can barely even turn and/or disrupt a play when I anticipate correctly.
Also, before it's even mentioned.. THERE ARE NO POKE CHECKS DURING THE INTERCEPT TRIES. I'll repeat this. There. Are. No. Pokes. During. Intercept. Tries. I don't poke at pucks mid-pass and expect to come up with it if I am skill skating in the direction of where I believe the intercept will occur. I ONLY poke at passes in the D-zone to break up plays.
