Players shouldn't be forced to do anything. The freeodm [SIC] that this game allows is what makes it fun. People like to claim the offensive freedom trumps defensive skill, but that's not the case at all. I think people just hate defending and their hatred for it makes it seem like it's 'harder' than offense.
I find this a super odd take but you're entitled to your opinion.
Ya. That IS kind of an odd take. It might make more sense in the context of like Online VS or something but not in 6s I dont think? Regardless, if people do indeed "hate defense" why would that be exactly?
I would posit that the reason is because the position isn't (or at least historically - since 18 or perhaps even 14 - overall HASN'T been) all that interesting, fun or rewarding. Same with goaltending. Look, I love the challenge of playing D in this game but it is rarely fun or rewarding most days when you see what you are up against. I would say its a possibly a little better this year than the last couple. Part of the issue is that while we can analyze/critique plays until the cows come home, most of the time real world analyses don't apply cause the game mostly just doesn't really play out like it does IRL.
btw apologies for replying to posts a week+ old - been on an extended hiatus from this place and just catching up
