Although I personally want everything in the game to feel realistic and I don’t think open ice hits do in NHL 24, I don’t mind the hitting system overall.
The most difficult hit in hockey, hip checks being tied to a button is a completely different story though.

It's really not that difficult to be honest. It's mostly about timing and hip placement. The same goes for executing a good hip check in '24. Some people make it seem like you just press the button and it happens, but that's not really the case. Although it is a simple button press to get the actual hip-check movement, you still need to execute it properly and time it perfectly or else you just brush off the intended target.

Well the problem is that last sentence is completely false. You absolutely don't need to time anything and no one brushes off hip checks.

I agree, hip checks are way too overpowered and don't really require skill. For the new body/shoulder checks I'd love to see it adjusted slightly where you don't have to push UP always and just need to push the R-stick in the direction you want to initiate contact in. But, keep the need to move stick back and forth to throw a more powerful hit. The new mechanics have made it a lot harder to do simple shoulder to shoulder rub outs along the boards, which is by far the most common check throw in hockey.

But… that’s what makes a hip check difficult. Timing and hip placement while trying to use your opponents momentum and maintaining yours is a lot harder than skating into somebody and turning your shoulder 30 degrees.
It is kind of funny though, since I said how difficult it is, there have been 4 or 5 beauties in the NHL so far.
Anyways, back to it being overpowered, no hate here towards you, but all across social media including the gamechangers say it is really overpowered. I’m curious if you think it is just everyone going full speed or are people using it because it seems much easier to pull off than the traditional body check because of the changes made in 24. - KidShowtime18672 years agoHero

I've had literally zero people successfully hip-check me in 6v6 because I know how volatile trying to burn down the boards at 100% speed is.
