Matchmaking is terrible...

Matchmaking in NHL 24 continues to be a huge problem. Waiting several minutes with your full squad of friends to either ⚽ find a game or 🏈be kicked to the main club lobby becomes the main time commitment to this year's iteration. Further, the matchmaking after the long waiting period, if you're not kicked to the lobby in 6v6, can create a non-human goalie (AI) vs. a team with a human goalie. This is simply NOT fair and should not be matched unless the teams select that matchmaking option. It does not appear that NHL 24 CHEL has the ability for one to choose to allow or deny this. Too many games lost because a player goalie is not able to compete with an AI goalie in the same game. It is further unclear between period of play when in a game why, if everyone is readied up, there is still a 30 second counter before the period begins. After trying to expedite play by making sure all were ready in between periods, it appears this 30 second wait time between periods is not something that can be changed even if all would like to skip it. I hope a future patch will be implemented to address these issues once and for all as many matchmaking issues continued to be a problem; even at the end of a full year of NHL 23.

Agree 100%!!!  This is absolutely BRUTAL!  Why did they have to change things from the way they were in last year’s pretty much identical game, with the exception of the “be a pro” feature being nerfed? Come on EA… surely you can do better in this identical game from last year’s version, that costs the same as a fresh, new game. .

Oh come on guys , they added a pressure system that is deeply flawed and a total control system with a reverse hit control that is in the worst possible spot on the controller. That is not cut and paste.

    EA great job

Agreed, take forever to find matches sometimes. I don't know why the search times out at 2 minutes as well. Should search for at least 5 minutes

What I don't get is that they don't give us a connection filter for online versus. Why can't I choose to only be matched up with "good" connection opponents? Or "fair?" Why can't I alternatively set a ping limit when searching for a  1v1 match?

  • Match making has been an absolutely terrible experience. I been playing mostly 3s and usually takes me around ~10 mins to finally get into 1 game. I would’ve thought cross play would’ve made this better

@vncanadian It takes our group of 5 skaters approximately 15min to find a match in dropin or club. Frequently, we are having to "reset" the lobby after several failed matchmaking attempts - unsure if this even does anything.

Match making is the biggest issue plaguing this game right now. When people sit idle for 10-20mins, they lose interest. We have called it an early night countless times now because momentum is lost with such prolonged wait times.

Not only does the system need improvement, but it is at the point where game modes are going to have to be eliminated to hopefully funnel players back into 6s. They have segregated such a small population into too many areas.

My experience with club matchmaking has been pleasantly surprising. We run with 3-5 skaters in 6s and are usually matched in under 2 minutes, sometimes quicker, sometimes longer. We play evenings and have guys from east and west playing and never seem to have an issue finding games in club during that time frame.

Drop in on the other hand is a disaster for matchmaking. Bring back otp lobbies.

A lot of teams search with match goalie on so it might benefit yours to find another player - From what I gather, full 6v6 leagues are pretty consistent.

Ones has lost its magic but removing that and possibly Threes Eliminator will most likely just funnel those players back into the more popular 3v3 version of EASHL/Clubs so it won't entirely help the 6v6 crowd

@TTZ_Dipsy I'm fine with ppl going into 3s.. I don't play it but I empathize with the 3s community and their lack of matchmaking as well.

I agree, Ones and 3s Elim can go. The substitute for 3sE could be a Mashup of the current unranked mode, which j feel is helpful to just play a quick stress free game without any ranking whatsoever. But Ones and Elim are just modes taking away from club, be it 3s or 6s
