Missing Slovak NHL Alumni players

I don’t understand what you have against Slovakia but the Alumni are very poorly represented in NHL24. Just for comparison, It’s interesting how many Czech players from the 90s/2000s are in the Alumni group (14) - Jagr, Hasek, Elias, Hejduk, Kron, Zidlicky, Pivonka, Holik, Hemsky, Neckar, Slegr, Hrdina, Michalek, Kuba. 9 of 14 Czech alumni received high rated, usable cards in HUT (86-94 OVR)

For Slovak players, the story is unfortunately different. Where is Washington’s top goal scorer Peter Bondra with his 503 NHL goals and 892 points? Where are the playoff heroes Zigmund Palffy, Pavol Demitra (STL Blues Hall of fame), Miroslav Satan, Jozef Stumpel, Richard Zednik, Robert Svehla, Lubomir Visnovsky, Ladislav Nagy, Andrej Meszaros, Zdeno Ciger, Tomas Kopecky, Marek Svatos, Lubomir Bartecko, and many others? Some of these names have 700+ points in NHL.

Slovakia has only 2 barely usable alumni players which are repeated every single year as PUI - Mikita from the 60s and Stastny from the 80s. Both were born in Slovakia but represented team Canada on the world stage. Why not give Stastny STL card in NHL94 anniversary event? Instead we got 4 Czech Alumni (94 Hejduk, 94 Elias, 88 Pivonka, 94 Kron). Then there are two additional Slovak alumni - Handzus and Budaj 70 OVR base icons, which have not been usable at any point in the game.

In NHL24 we also got Hossa and Chara back, because they were removed in NHL23. I don’t consider those recent players retiring after 2020 to be true alumni though. That said, I hope Gaborik is also coming back in NHL25.

And you know what is the cherry on top and a testament of EA not caring at all? Reading in every single intro sequence “SLOVENIA” on the boards when I use logo of team Slovakia when playing HUT. You may as well just write Anze Kopitar on the boards because he’s the only Slovenian player to play in NHL and score some points.

Slovakia, it’s NOT in the game.

@EA_Aljo please forward this to the licensing team.

  • Couldn’t agree more with this. EA is all in for diversity but underrepresenting a certain nationality doesn’t seem to be on their radar of items to address.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Slafkovsky doesn’t get a TOTS card in young guns category even though he’s breaking records this year.

  • I think we got lucky with the Czech Alumni in NHL24 so I can’t complain. I feel for you my fellow Slovak brothers and sisters.

Bondra, Demitra, Palffy, Šatan and Stumpel most assuredly deserve to be featured in EA’s NHL games. I still remember Pavol Demitra’s breakaway goal that won you bronze medal. That was one of the very few times you were able to win against us. We’ll see you in Ostrava at IIHF Worlds this year.

@SlaviciZMadriduYes, I remember that goal very well. Demitra had so many highlight reel moments. He’s second to only Brett Hull in GWG for the Blues for a reason.

Demitra’s MVP performance at Winter Olympics in Vancouver in 2010 was unreal. The precisely aimed slapper from the distance that beat Lundquist and ultimately eliminated team Sweden with Sedins was a beauty too. Then his famous toedrag shootout goal that eliminated Ovi’s team Russia. I won’t forget how close Demitra was to tie the game against team Canada to have a chance at advancing to finals in dying seconds when Luongo robbed him on a juicy rebound in the bottom right corner.
