@booher04 wrote:Agreed. First off you shouldnt be banned regardless for a game you pay for. Regardless of what you make your name. Freedom of speech, you pay your money just like the person who is reporting you for your name. Everyone is so soft now a days. Its a video game and just about every name i see on there are made to be funny and a joke.
"Freedom of speech"
This does not mean what you think it means.
Oh i know what freedom of speech is… im using it in the sense of EA being the “government” in this case. i use Mick E Moose as my name so this has no effect on me however my point is YOU pay for a game, I pay for a game… why do you have a right to tell me how to play it? Why do you have a right to distinguish if i should or shouldnt be banned for something? You paid same as i did. What if i report you just because you are good at the game and i stink? The names are part of the chel experience and therefore you as another paying customer shouldnt be allowed to change my experience. I get EA being able to block certain hate or swearing, cursewords ect but when someone cant even put “Larry” or their real name in because EA thinks it’s offensive is ridiculous. Its a video game and is someones OPINION of a funny name that gets banned because someone elses OPINION is its offensive.
Free Speech. Freedom of speech is the right of a person to articulate opinions and ideas without interference or retaliation from the government. You can look up the First Amendment if you need more details on Freedom of speech.

We're not the government. That doesn't really apply. Of course we don't want names like "Larry" causing people to be banned and in most cases, that's not going to happen. If you combine it with something else that makes it offensive, then we have a problem. People get very creative. Also, this is not a mature rated game. We need to keep the content suitable for everyone. Having a high amount of people using offensive names doesn't fit in to this.

I agree people get really creative and i definitely have no issues as i said i dont use anything crazy or offensive. My point of the government comment was EA is being the “government” in this situation, you pay ea for the game and they are telling you how to play it. Either way doesnt effect me in any way but i think it’s ridiculous people are getting banned for using their real names and standard names like “larry” are showing up as “offensive” when trying to create your own name. I would agree since its not a mature rated game you cant have swear words in names. I would also suggest that EA devs put more effort into making the game with less bugs and issues vs banning names or spending time configuring censorship of names. Theres bigger issues with the game than someone putting in an offensive name, and i think most players would agree with that. If the game was perfect or had very minimal issues then by all means after release go in and configure all your filters and censorships at that point. Not againt you Aljo I appreciate all your feedback and work you do with the community!

I know some names are getting flagged as offensive when they're not. This isn't intended. As I said before, it's the potential to use them combined with other names that causes them to be offensive. If someone contacts me here, I can normally get a non-offensive name flagged so it can be used.
We are working on bigger issues than names currently. Which is why you don't see name issues addressed in patches.
Thanks for the kind words. Appreciate it.
